When UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier found out that Jon Jones was pulled from their fight at UFC 200, he was miserable, to say the least. Cormier was looking to establish himself as one of the greats in his attempt to avenge his only loss to the oftentimes argued pound-for-pound king in Jones. However, just days ahead of their competition, Cormier had the opportunity snatched from him after Jones tested positive for banned substances and was pulled from their fight.

When Jon Jones was pulled from UFC 200 with just two days to go until his main event scrap with Daniel Cormier, there was much speculation as to what would happen to Daniel Cormier in regards to his involvement in the historic card. Fortunately, former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva stepped in on just two days notice to fight Cormier in a 3 round main-card fight. While Cormier was criticized for what many perceived to be ‘playing it safe’, the light heavyweight champ revealed on The MMA Hour this week that he actually went as far as to take a pay cut for the fight because of his desire to fight:

Ultimately, former middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva stepped in on just 2 days notice to fight the light heavyweight champ in a 3 round main card scrap. Unfortunately for Cormier, while he had an opponent for the event, his pay was cut because he was no longer the main event of the card.

By now the MMA world is aware that UFC pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones was pulled from UFC 200 Wednesday evening after he was notified of a potential USADA anti-doping violation. Wednesday night, UFC President Dana White and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier appeared at a press conference, however Jones and his team maintained silence through Thursday morning.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier were initially slated to have their highly anticipated rematch at UFC 197 on April 23rd in what was Jones’ first fight back in the Octagon since being stripped of his light heavyweight championship. Cormier pulled out of the fight with a knee injury, and was ultimately replaced by Ovince St-Preux on short notice. The fight became an interim light heavyweight championship fight, with the winner set to face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship.

While Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier’s rivalry is certainly alive and well ahead of their UFC 200 rematch on July 9th, both men have toned down the trash talk to an extent. This week Jones even went as far as to call his rivalry with Cormier “childish”. Jon Jones isn’t hiding the fact that he isn’t satisfied with the NAC’s referee selection for his UFC 200 rematch with Daniel Cormier. Jones’ team initially appealed the referee selection, however they ignored his concerns and moved forward with McCarthy as the referee for the bout. During a media scrum earlier this week, Jones explained why he doesn’t want McCarthy to be the referee for the fight, saying the he would “prefer any other referee but him.”
