Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, this after scoring a third-round TKO victory over Daniel Cormier in the evenings main event. After two closely contested rounds, “Bones” was able to find a home for a crushing head kick early in round three which left Cormier staggered and on wobbly legs. Jones would immediately rush after “DC” and get him to the octagon canvas where he proceeded to unleash some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call a stop to the action.

Jon Jones returned to the octagon in the featured bout of last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim where he squared off with bitter rival Daniel Cormier in a rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. After two very closely contested opening rounds, “Bones” was able to land a massive head kick to the face of “DC” in round three which left Cormier in all sorts of trouble. Shortly following the kick, Jones out Cormier on the canvas where he began raining down some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call the contest.

A light heavyweight title fight rematch between current champ Daniel Cormier and former title holder Jon Jones served as the main event of tonight’s UFC 214 fight card in Anaheim, California. Round one begins and Jones lands a hard low kick. He lands a right hand and then a left. Jones starting off quickly. Cormier lands a massive uppercut that knocks the mouth guard out of Jon Jones. The referee hands it to him. Jones lands a takedown but Cormier scrambles and they are back up. Jones with a left hand. Cormier replies with one of his own. Jones with a nice shot to the body. He lands a kick to the thigh. Cormier presses forward. Jones fakes a kick. He throws a low kick. He lands a left and then throws Cormier in to the fence. Another good jab and then a low kick from Jones. He lands a hard knee to the mid section. DC comes forward and lands a pair of low kicks. He follows that up with a right hand. Jones replies with a low kick of his own. Cormier circles and returns fire. Jones with a good kick to the body. He follows that up with an elbow. Jones with a nice right hand over the top. Jones with a left hand and then a front kick. DC replies with a low kick. Jones comes over the top with an elbow. DC misses with a wild right but then lands a low kick. Jones fires back with a low kick of his own. DC with a nice left hand. He presses forward and lands a right. Jones fires back with a pair of left hands. DC comes forward and lands a pair of big punches. Jones showboats but then eats a right hand. Cormier with some low kicks and then one to the body. Jones returns fire with a low kick. Round one comes to an end.

Thursday afternoon at the UFC 214 media day, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones came face to face for yet another heated staredown ahead of their scrap on Saturday. Jon Jones, in an effort to make a statement about the physique of Cormier, hit the stage shirtless for the staredown. When the two men came face to face, they remained silent for most of the staredown as they locked eyes. Jones then appeared to say something to Cormier under his breath, that was not picked up by cameras.

Both men have made weight and the bout is official for the what many are claiming the best card of the year, thus far. The bout stands out as the biggest of the year thus far, and pretty much everybody has an opinion on it. One of the latest members of the MMA community to share their opinion on the fight was three-time UFC title challenger, current Bellator star, and perennial soundbite-generator Chael Sonnen. Their rivalry began in the buildup to their first fight, which occurred back in January of 2015. On that night, Jones picked up a unanimous decision win, moving to 1-0 in his beef with Cormier. “The first time he beat me, it was in the most important moments, in the fourth and fifth rounds,” Cormier told UFC.com of that first loss to Jones. “The fourth round was his most dominant round, and in the fifth round, he pretty much won on control, holding me and pushing me against the fence.”

Not long ago, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones Tweeted that he had received a surprise phone call from middleweight legend Anderson Silva. During yesterday’s UFC 214 conference call, Jones elaborated that Silva’s call surrounded Jones’ UFC 214 title fight with Daniel Cormier. Apparently, Silva wanted to assure the former champ that Cormier has “fear in his heart” – which makes him a beatable opponent for Jones. Yesterday afternoon, light heavyweight rivals Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones spoke on the official UFC 214 media conference call. One of the more interesting moments of this call occurred after Cormier once again suggested Jones had abused steroids throughout his title reign. Though Jones initially ignored this comment, he later went off on Cormier for attacking his character, and claimed that, deep down, Cormier knows he never did steroids. “This whole thing that we’re going through, it has become an attack on my character,” Jones said (h/t MMAFighting.com). “That’s all this thing is, is an attack on my character. When people ask Daniel what he thinks about me inside the Octagon, he has sh*t to say about me.
