Daniel Cormier promises he’s taking Derrick Lewis seriously

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will attempt the first defense of his title in the main event of UFC 230 on November 3, as he’s been booked for a short notice showdown with hulking heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis.

Given Cormier’s incredible dominance across two weight classes, and the way he matches up with Lewis, many fans and pundits are expecting the champion to have a relatively easy night of work at UFC 230.

Derrick Lewis, however, has warned Daniel Cormier not to take him lightly.

“I believe he’s thinking this is going to be an easy fight for himself,” Lewis said at a UFC 230 media event recently. “Go ahead and think that. It’s crazy I even made it this far without the training I put in before each and every fight.”

“I’m serious, I don’t stay in the gym each day like my opponents. I spend probably 30 minutes [training], five minutes sitting and five minutes on my phone posting memes and stuff.

While Lewis is worried he’s being slept on, Daniel Cormier assures that’s not the case.

“Trust me Derrick I am definitely taking you serious,” Cormier said, before listing some of Lewis’ accolades in the heavyweight division. “9-1 last 10 and ranked #2 in the world. How could I not take you serious?”

Who do you think will come out on top when Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis battle in the UFC 230 main event?
