Dana White adamant Khabib Nurmagomedov can't sit out all year with belt

Tom Taylor - February 11, 2019

Back in January, UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov was finally disciplined for his role in the wild brawl that followed his UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor. The Dagestani champion received a $500,000 fine and a nine-month suspension, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying PSA approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Nurmagomedov will not be partaking in the NSAC’s proposed PSA — he recently made his thoughts on that quite clear. Furthermore, the champ actually plans to sit out until November, standing in solidarity with his teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who were suspended for one year for their roles in the brawl.

Tom Taylor - February 10, 2019

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has recently expressed interest in a fight with former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Though Conor McGregor would be the much smaller man in the cage in this prospective showdown, he seems up for the matchup too — even calling it an ‘honor.’ Anderson is one crafty, crafty Martial Artist. You only develop these methods through years of hard fought experience. Phenomenal performance. The crafty veteran. Big respect always. It would be an honor!

With Alvey hurt, Crute quickly swarmed to force a stoppage, and eventually got one. Yet many onlookers felt that stoppage came a little too early — that includes UFC President Dana White. Speaking at the UFC 234 post-fight press conference, Dana White criticized referee Marc Goddard for his handiwork in this Jim Crute vs. Sam Alvey matchup.

Dana White announces UFC 234 will air on DirecTV after reaching agreement

James Lynch - February 8, 2019

Despite rumblings an agreement wouldn’t be reached, this Saturday’s UFC 234 card will air on DirecTV after all. That’s according to MMANews’ Damon Martin who notes that while the UFC has come to terms with DirecTV, they still need to sign a long term deal. DirecTV is the leader in pay-per-view distribution in the United States and is typically what would air in bars and restaurants. Prior to this agreement, the UFC was telling fans to purchase the pay-per View through UFC.tv, Amazon or in the Playstation or the XBOX store.

Speaking on ESPN’s Now or Never earlier this week, UFC President Dana White stated that the time for a rematch between UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier is ‘now.’ “Now,” White said bluntly of a rematch between the two arch rivals. “Yeah. I think that right now, Cormier probably has three fights left in his career, you know what I mean? And one of those guys is definitely going to be Jon Jones.”

Thomas Taylor - January 31, 2019

Jon Jones is once again the UFC light heavyweight champion, and as always, one of the most compelling matchups available for him is a rematch with his arch rival Daniel Cormier, who currently holds the UFC heavyweight title. While Jon Jones is currently booked for a UFC 235 title defense opposite the fearsome Anthony Smith, and Daniel Cormier is still unsure whether he’ll retire in March as originally planned, UFC President Dana White seems to be very interested in a rematch between the two stars — and soon.

Tom Taylor - January 31, 2019

UFC President Dana White and boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya have had plenty to say about each other over the last few weeks. In fact, their beef recently got so heated that the retired boxer De La Hoya even challenged White to a fight on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs undercard. “Let’s get in the ring,” Oscar De La Hoya said on the Luke Thomas show. “Let’s get in the ring, three rounds. Let’s do this. Let’s do this under Canelo [Alvarez], Cinco de Mayo. I’ll even give you five months so you can get off the juice, and then we can get in great shape and then we go three rounds. Look, I’m going to give you what, a 50 pound advantage? It’s ok. I can take you on. Let’s do it.”

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington was recently mentioned as a potential opponent for Darren Till — that was before Till was booked to fight Covington’s training partner Jorge Masvidal. Dana White gives his take on Henry Cejudo vs. TJ Dillashaw stoppage

Tom Taylor - January 20, 2019

Henry Cejudo needed only 32 seconds to defend his UFC flyweight title against UFC bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw in Saturday night’s UFC Brooklyn main event. Regrettably, Cejudo’s stoppage victory was somewhat controversial, as some members of the MMA community felt the referee stepped in early. Dillashaw certainly feels this way — and apparently he told UFC President Dana White as much when the fight ended. “He just yelled at me while I was doing an interview when he walked by, ‘That’s bullshit,’” White said post-fight (transcript via MMA Fighting). “I thought it was an early stoppage too.
