Most recently, all signs pointed to the former champ returning to the Octagon last year after reports began to surface that negotiations with the UFC had been going well after he and UFC President Dana White buried the hatchet. Unfortunately, while it looked as though St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon to fight middleweight champion Michael Bisping, the former champ took to social media to release a statement on why he would be unable to fight Bisping, saying:

Dana White: Jon Jones likely to get immediate title shot when he returns
Tom Taylor - February 1, 2017
Last year, in the main event of UFC 200, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was expected to take on current champion Daniel Cormier in a bid to reclaim the title that was once his. Regrettably, Jones was forced out of this planned fight after a failed drug test, and was subsequently handed a year-long suspension (retroactive to the date of the failed test). In July, Jones will once again be eligible to compete. And though there has been some speculation that he might take a tune up fight before fighting for the title again, UFC President Dana White recently explained that he expects Jones will receive an immediate title shot upon his return. White gave his thoughts on the situation on a recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
Dana White: Ronda Rousey is "probably done" fighting
Tom Taylor - January 31, 2017
In November of 2015, dominant women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was knocked stiff by a second-round Holly Holm head-kick. This shocking upset loss was followed by a long stretch of inactivity, during which many members of the MMA community wondered whether or not the former champ would ever return to the cage. Eventually, of course, Rousey did return to the cage, as she took on Amanda Nunes in the main event of December’s UFC 207 more than a year later. Regrettably for the WMMA trailblazer and her fans, however, this fight went even worse than her bout with Holm, as she was mauled in just 48 seconds.

Shortly after this win, the champ began campaigning for a fight with the winner of UFC’s upcoming inaugural women’s featherweight title fight, which will pit former bantamweight champ Holly Holm against kickboxing veteran Germaine de Randamie. According to UFC president Dana White, however, Nunes might be getting a bit ahead of herself. When asked about Nunes’ featherweight ambition at the post-fight press conference for the UFC’s Saturday return to Denver, White suggested that Nunes should defend her title before chasing additional titles in other divisions. While the UFC President has clearly forgotten that Nunes’ defeat of Rousey was a title defense (she won the title by submitting Miesha Tate in July), his message remained clear.
