Curtis Blaydes is “hunting legends,” wants Miocic-Cormier winner next

By Tom Taylor - June 21, 2018

Currently riding high on decisive defeats of legendary heavyweights Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem, Curtis Blaydes feels he’s earned a shot at the winner of UFC 226’s Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier winner. Blaydes issued his latest call for a fight with the Miocic vs. Cormier winner — the next legend on his hit list — in Wednesday Tweet.

Speaking on BJPENN.COM Radio last week, Blaydes explained that he’s hoping to fight the Cormier vs. Miocic winner in December — possibly on the UFC’s typically massive year-end pay-per-view.

“They’re both challenges, and I don’t think either one of them is easier or harder than the other,” he said. “They’re both great in their own ways, they both have pretty good stand up, they’re pretty good wrestlers. [My] only advantage would be I have a weight advantage over them, and probably a reach advantage also. I was thinking about New Years Eve, in Vegas. I think I deserve to be the champion.”

Blaydes also divulged that he’s expecting Miocic to come out on top at UFC 226.

“I’m gonna take Stipe,” Blaydes said. “I like his kickboxing, his footwork, his conditioning. I know that DC is a good wrestler but Stipe is a pretty good wrestler himself. I think he’s got a lot more advantages. I think he gets the finish — but probably into the fourth round, maybe fifth.”

With his defeats of Hunt and Overeem, Blaydes improved his current streak to five-straight. This streak also includes defeats of Alexey Oleynik, Daniel Omielańczuk, and Cody East. His last and only loss occurred in his UFC debut, when he experienced a disappointing doctor stoppage loss to future heavyweight title challenger Francis Ngannou. He’s 10-1 overall.

Do you think Curtis Blaydes deserves the next heavyweight title shot?
