Justin Gaethje is one of the top contenders in the lightweight division and is currently ranked at No. 5 in the divisional rankings. Whilst many other major fighters in the division have confirmed bouts over the next few months, the next opponent for Gaethje remains to be seen. Gaethje partook in an interview with ESPN to share his thoughts on possible matchups. He believes he deserves to fight an opponent ranked above him and is open to a showdown with former two-division champion Conor McGregor.

All signs point to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov taking on the interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier next. The fight is expected to take place at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi. Although that is the tentative plan, there is one person who can potentially change all that, and that is Conor McGregor. The Irishman fought Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 where he lost by fourth-round submission. But, according to Ali Abdelaziz, Nurmagomedov’s manager, if the former two-division champ were to get a win he could very well jump the line and get the next title shot.

During an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN, boxing superstar Tyson Fury was asked about his thoughts on former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the “Gypsy King” had plenty of praise for “The Notorious”. Helwani asked Fury what his thoughts were on McGregor and included some of the recent trouble McGregor has found himself in, and Fury not only called McGregor a game-changer, but said it’s more about what lessons Conor McGregor learns from his mistakes.

Conor McGregor takes shot at Rafael dos Anjos after UFC Rochester

Last night, the UFC returned to our screens with the UFC Rochester card. In the main event of this card, former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos defeated Kevin Lee by submission— and as is so often the case, long-absent star Conor McGregor had something to say about it on Twitter. Conor McGregor was briefly scheduled to fight Rafael dos Anjos in 2016. At the time, the Irishman was the UFC featherweight champion, and dos Anjos still held the lightweight title. Unfortunately, dos Anjos was forced out of their planned contest with a foot injury at the last minute. McGregor then accepted a short-notice fight with Nate Diaz — and lost — kickstarting his wild rivalry with Stockton based fighter.

Earlier this year, the Irish star found himself in hot water after allegedly smashing the cell phone of 22-year-old fan Ahmed Abdirzak. Over the last few months, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has made several mentions of a potential super fight with former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor. McGregor, never one to turn down a challenge, has shown reciprocal interest in this matchup. Despite the mutual interest Anderson Silva and Conor McGregor have in fighting one another, however, the matchup still looks pretty unlikely. Speaking to TMZ Sports this week, Silva did what he could to change that, pushing UFC President Dana White to book the fight.
