This Saturday in New York, UFC featherweight superstar Conor McGregor will have the opportunity to make UFC history as he aims to defeat lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and become the first ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion. Ahead of the fight however, despite his dominance inside the Octagon, McGregor’s endurance and heart was questioned by Alvarez, who stated that he was not a championship level fighter. Alvarez cited McGregor’s UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz, saying that McGregor gassed early in the fight, and that he will once again at UFC 205.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor put on an open workout for the media ahead of his UFC 205 main event title fight against UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. “The Notorious” has a chance to make history in New York City on Saturday night with a win over Alvarez by becoming the first simultaneous two-weight UFC champion, carrying the title of champion of both the UFC’s 145 and 155-pound divisions. That is all if McGregor does, in fact, beat Alvarez in their title bout slated to take place at 155 pounds.

This defense, which will occur in the main event of Saturday night’s UFC 205, will see him attempt to thwart featherweight champ Conor McGregor‘s attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold to belts at once. As this massive bout draws ever closer, Alvarez is fulfilling the last of his media obligations. One of these obligations was the media workout that traditionally occurs in the lead-up to a card of this scale. After this workout, which occured on the home hardwood of The New York Knicks, Alvarez took a moment to address the media and fans in attendance. During this interaction with the crowd, he offered up a prediction as to the outcome of his looming bout with McGregor.

With UFC 205 now just days away, fight fans have continued to question which title belt featherweight champion Conor McGregor will vacate if he emerges from his lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez victorious. While UFC President Dana White has remained adamant that if McGregor wins, he must vacate one of the two title belts in order to prevent holding up either division, McGregor began by stating that it would take an army for the UFC brass to take one of the titles away from him. More recently, McGregor changed his tune, stating that before there are talks of him vacating a belt, he would like to make history by winning the fight, and appreciate the moment before shifting to those talks.

While Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos may not have fought at UFC 196 for the lightweight championship as initially planned, McGregor’s training for dos Anjos very well could have helped him prepare for his current opponent, Eddie Alvarez. McGregor, who faces Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 this Saturday, where he hopes to capture the lightweight championship and become the first man in the history f the UFC to simultaneously hold two championship belts, was set to face dos Anjos in the main event of UFC 196 back in March for the lightweight title. Unfortunately, just two weeks before the fight, dos Anjos pulled out of the fight with a broken foot and was replaced by Nate Diaz, who ultimately handed McGregor the first loss of his UFC career.

While McGregor has previously competed at lightweight under the Cage Warriors banner in Ireland, he has yet to fight at 155 inside the Octagon. Despite being booked for a lightweight title fight with Rafael dos Anjos back in March, McGregor fought twice at welterweight after dos Anjos was forced out of the fight with a broken foot.
