One of the most compelling of these reasons has been UFC President Dana White’s interest in making the fight happen.

Current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor stated after winning the lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez back in November of last year that he would be taking time off from fighting for the birth of his first child. McGregor said that fight camps wear on his girlfriend Dee Devlin and that he didn’t want her to undergo any further stress while being pregnant. McGregor also stated after UFC 205 that he wanted to meet with the UFC owners to negotiate equity in the company so that he could set his family up financially long after his fighting days are over.

Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor exchanged plenty of trash talk in the buildup to their November 2016 lightweight title fight. Based on this trash talk alone, there would be plenty of reason to assume that the two fighters don’t like each other.

Despite the new and unprecedented heights of his stardom after his knockout of Alvarez, McGregor followed this win with the news that he’d be taking some time away from the sport. The reason, he announced, was that he was expecting his first child with long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has been on the receiving end of quite a bit of criticism over the course of the last six months. After Bisping won the title by knocking out Luke Rockhold in June of 2016, the newly crowned middleweight champ stepped into the Octagon to defend his middleweight title for the first time against MMA legend Dan Henderson. Bisping avenged his infamous UFC 100 knockout to Henderson by picking up a unanimous decision in England to defend his title for the first time. Following that, it was announced in early 2017 that Bisping would be returning to the Octagon later in the year to defend his middleweight title against Georges St-Pierre.

In 2016, UFC superstars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz put on two of the most iconic fights in UFC history. Just two weeks before Conor McGregor was scheduled to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 196, it was revealed that the lightweight champion was forced out of the fight with a broken foot. Ultimately, after a brief scramble which saw many fighters offer to fill-in for dos Anjos, the UFC chose Stockton California’s Nate Diaz as a replacement opponent for McGregor. On just two weeks notice, Diaz proceeded to shock the world by submitting McGregor in the second round. After the UFC attempted to schedule the rematch for UFC 200, which resulted in McGregor briefly retiring from MMA, the two met once again in the Octagon at UFC 202 in November of 2016, where McGregor avenged his loss by picking up a majority decision win over Diaz.

Meaning that if he touches you with his left hand, he will likely be able to put you to sleep. That power has been a major factor in predictions for a fight between McGregor and undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather. While Mayweather of course is arguably the greatest boxer of all time, going undefeated throughout his entire career while displaying phenomenal defensive abilities, many believe McGregor’s power and size could present an interesting challenge for Mayweather.
