Daniel Cormier Says McGregor’s Trilogy Fight with Nate Diaz ‘Has to Happen’

By Justin Golightly - September 15, 2017

After dipping his toes into boxing and making millions, Conor McGregor is expected to return to fight inside the Octagon once again. The thing about McGregor though, is that he’s unpredictable. Of course, he could change his mind and keep boxing, or just shrug it all off and stay in Ibiza admiring gigantic boats. What is predictable, is how big a third fight with Nate Diaz could be. Daniel Cormier is the latest to weigh-in on the match-up and thinks that it’s something the UFC needs to make happen.

Nate Diaz taunts Conor McGregor

“One of the fights that has to happen in the UFC is Conor McGregor versus Nate Diaz number three. In the first fight, Nate went in on short notice, submitted Conor McGregor and shocked the world. In the second fight, Conor made adjustments. Came in, used leg kicks to slow Nate down and won a very, very close decision. These guys make a ton of money together. It’s one of the biggest fights the UFC can put on and now it will be for the lightweight championship of the world. You can not make a bigger fight. These guys have to run it back. The bad blood, the trash talk, the press conferences. This would be amazing from start to finish and I can not wait until these guys go again.”

The two fights that Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz had were both received with mixed feelings and criticism, but the numbers don’t lie. Both bouts made a ton of money, with their second fight almost beating UFC 100’s record. The bonus of a UFC title on the line, as well as that the fight would be contested at 155-pounds, adds a fresh suspense to a third fight. We’ll have to wait to see what happens, but let’s just say we won’t be ‘surprised’ if these two fight again.
