Beneil Dariush reveals concerning injury just hours before UFC Perth co-headliner

UFC lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush could potentially fight for the final time this weekend at UFC Perth. Dariush will square off with streaking prospect Quillan Salkilld in the UFC Perth main event just before the highly-anticipated Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates headliner.

Ahead of what could be his final fight before he hangs up the gloves, Dariush is highly motivated to stop Salkilld’s rise and add another victory to his highlight reel. He’s seeking his first win since outpointing Renato Moicano at UFC 317 last year.

As fighters go through the grind of a training camp, bumps and bruises are common, especially for those getting ready for five-rounders. But just hours ahead of his fight at UFC Perth, Dariush is suffering from an unusual injury that could impact his performance in the cage this weekend.

In a recent interview with Submission Radio, the interviewer noticed one of Dariush’s eyes was swollen, and pressed the lightweight on what happened.

“It keeps happening,” Dariush said of his eye injury.

“It happened, I think was Saturday. I don’t know if it was a bumped head or I got hit in the side of the eye, and I’ve been kind of stressing out about it, and then last night I’m training, and I get a fingernail right here to the side of it, and it swelled up.

“So, they’re minor things, not a big deal, but it is what it is. It just keeps happening.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)

If Salkilld lands a clean punch early in Round 1, Dariush could be at an immediate disadvantage at UFC Perth. But Dariush seems game to prove his trademark toughness this weekend inside the Octagon.
