Angela Hill is not happy about Mackenzie Dern taking her spot in the strawweight rankings

In the wake of the UFC 224, which went down last Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the UFC has updated its official rankings.

Given the way the UFC rankings seem to morph entirely arbitrarily from one week to the next, they are usually pretty controversial. The latest update to the rankings, however, was particularly controversial, as Mackenzie Dern usurped the number-15 spot in the strawweight rankings after her UFC 224 submission win over Amanda Bobby Cooper.

WOMEN’S STRAWWEIGHT
Champion: Rose Namajunas
1 Joanna Jedrzejczyk
2 Jessica Andrade
3 Claudia Gadelha
4 Karolina Kowalkiewicz
5 Tecia Torres
6 Carla Esparza
7 Michelle Waterson
8 Felice Herrig
9 Alexa Grasso
10 Cortney Casey
11 Randa Markos
12 Tatiana Suarez
13 Joanne Calderwood
14 Nina Ansaroff

The problem here, of course, is that Dern missed weight for her bout with Cooper, tipping the scales well above the strawweight division’s 116-pound limit, at 123 pounds. In essence, she’s been awarded a spot in the rankings for a win that didn’t occur in the division.

Of all the people to take issue with Dern’s entrance into the strawweight rankings, none have quite as much reason to do so as former Invicta champ Angela Hill. Hill, after all, previously held the strawweight division’s number 15 spot, but was ejected from the rankings to make room for Dern.

Hill shared her gripes with the updated UFC rankings on Twitter.

“Well this is a big fat slap in the face,” Hill said in her Tweet. “I’ve fought top competition, beat #14 and the rankings finally grace me with #15 ranking, just to get bumped by a fucking Flyweight.”

Do you understand Angela Hill’s frustration with Mackenzie Dern’s inclusion in the UFC strawweight rankings?
