Floyd Mayweather Sr. threatens to KO Conor McGregor

Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 205, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor cemented his place in the UFC history books when he TKOd Eddie Alvarez in the second round to claim the UFC lightweight strap, becoming the first man to simultaneously hold two championship belts in two weight classes. Several weeks prior to the fight, McGregor appeared at the UFC 205 pre-fight press conference, where he was asked who he would like to fight next if he defeated Alvarez. McGregor of course stirred up quite a bit of controversy when he stated that he was considering making the jump to boxing for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.

Top ranked UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov is doing everything in his power to secure a lightweight title fight with newly crowned lightweight champion Conor McGregor. This past weekend on the UFC 205 fight card, Nurmagomedov picked up a spectacular 3rd round submission win over Michael Johnson, which not only included some horrific ground and pound, but also some mid-fight trash talk from Nurmagomedov, in which he told his opponent that he must give up. The win not only moved Nurmagomedov’s UFC record to 8-0, but also advanced his professional record to 24-0, earning him the #1 spot on the UFC’s official lightweight rankings.

While Conor McGregor’s win over Eddie Alvarez this past weekend in the main event of UFC 205 was certainly an incredibly dominant one, which saw McGregor dominate Alvarez bell to bell en route to a 2nd round TKO win, members of the fight community have mixed reactions to McGregor’s odds in a potential boxing match with undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather, who was briefly linked to a bout with McGregor starting back in July when McGregor was pulled from his UFC 200 headlining scrap against Nate Diaz for refusing to fulfill his media obligations for the event, has continued to discuss the possibility of fighting McGregor in a boxing match.

McGregor of course cemented his place in the UFC history books as he dominated Alvarez from bell to bell, dropping the gritty MMA veteran just moments into the fight, before ultimately finishing him in the 2nd round with a beautiful 4-punch combination. Following the fight, McGregor was compared to undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather, which didn’t go over too well with ‘Money’, McGregor fired back, and threw fuel on the flames of a rumor of a fight between the two.

After Conor McGregor was submitted by Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 196 back in March, there was much speculation as to what the UFC featherweight champ’s next move would be. One of the more intriguing options that was immediately available to McGregor after he was pulled from the UFC 200 card for refusing to fulfill his media obligations was to make the jump to boxing for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. Both men traded shots back and forth in the media, which resulted in both men verbally agreeing to fight. While talks began as very ‘hypothetical’, things quickly progressed, with an ESPN affiliate even going as far as to announce the date for the McGregor-Mayweather fight. With that being said however, McGregor ultimately ended up signing to fight Nate Diaz in a rematch at UFC 202 in August, which McGregor won via majority decision.

News surfaced recently that Boxing heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury had failed a drug test for cocaine. The news came just days after Fury had pulled out of his rematch against Wladimir Klitschko on September 23rd for unidentified reasons, stating he was deemed “medically unfit” to fight. While it was expected that Fury would be stripped of the heavyweight world championship, there has been no word yet on what course of action will be taken against him in the wake of his failed drug test.

Friday morning, news surfaced that heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury had been notified of a failed drug test for cocaine. ESPN is reporting that The drug test, which was performed on September 22nd in Lancaster, England, by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association revealed that Fury had tested positive for benzoylegonine, the main chemical component found in cocaine.
