Galvao Submits Warren

Bellator 135 took place Friday night in Thackerville, Oklahoma and we saw the crowning of a new king in the bantamweight division! Marcos Galvao trapped Joe Warren in a kneebar and torqued hard enough to make the champion scream, which is a verbal submission in mixed martial arts. Check out the rest of the results of the main card below!

Ryan Couture Wrapped Things Up Quickly…
Ryan Couture def. Dakota Cochrane by way of SUBMISSION (RNC) 3:23 of Round 1
Ryan Couture, son of UFC Legend Randy Couture, was able to wrap Dakota Cochrane up in a rear naked choke and force him to submit in the first round! Couture has yet to lose in the Bellator cage and is riding a four fight winning streak. Couture seems to be fitting in just fine here in Bellator and he could be a couple wins away from a shot at the championship.

Francis Carmont Narrowly Escaped a Tough Round 3…
Francis Carmont def. Guilherme Viana by way of Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Carmont took to the center of the cage in the opening round and dictated where the fight went and almost knocked Viana out in the second. Instead of going in for the kill, he simply took Viana down for the remaining minute of the round. This would almost cost him the decision as Viana was able to trap Carmont in a rear naked choke attempt as well as an armbar. Carmont was slippery enough to escape the hold and ultimately win the fight by way of unanimous decision.

Davis and Tokoro Put on the Fight of the Night…
L.C. Davis def. Hideo Tokoro by way of Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
This was easily the fight of the night and could possibly be Bellator’s fight of the year so far. Tokoro and Davis put it all on the line and the fight resembled something you would see from PRIDE’s Bushido tournament. Davis was able to squeeze by with a split decision win, but he almost put Tokoro away in the final seconds of the fight with a guillotine choke.

Galvao Makes Warren Cry Uncle…
Marcos Galvao def. Joe Warren by way of Verbal Submission (Kneebar) :45 of Round 2
After a competitive first round, Galvao was able to turn the tables on the ground in the second when he trapped Warren in a kneebar. Warren had nowhere to go and he thought of ways to escape. However, it looked like he was panicking and frozen; he was not trying to escape the hold. Galvao was applying more torque the longer Warren stayed motionless. Eventually, Galvao let out one last thrust at the hips which hyperextended Warren’s knee. Warren let out a yelp of pain and referee Big John waved the fight off due to verbal submission.
