Rothwell hoping for fill-in fight against Junior Dos Santos

Ben Rothwell is concerned about his placement in the UFC’s heavyweight division. The best way to solidify his position as the #1 contender? Defeat former champion Junior Dos Santos.

Rothwell was set to face Stipe Miocic at UFC Dublin on October 24th, however after an injury forced Miocic off the card Rothwell was left without an opponent, and was pulled from the card.

While Junior Dos Santos is currently slated to fight Alistair Overeem at UFC on FOX 17 on December 19th, Rothwell is hoping for a chance to fill-in if either man is forced to pull out.

Rothwell spoke to MMAJunkie to discuss the fight.

“Beating Stipe, I still know I’m questionable as the No. 1 contender, and how am I going to convince everybody? I have to beat Junior Dos Santos. That was the message. It would probably make it happen.”

“I already put my name out there and said if somebody falls out in the Overeem or Dos Santos fight, I’ll be there. I don’t wish anything bad to happen, but I really want to fight Junior Dos Santos. The whole thing would make sense if that happens.”
