Waldo Cortes-Acosta wants UFC interim heavyweight title to be created

UFC prospect Waldo Cortes-Acosta wants to see the promotion create an interim world title in the heavyweight division.
Over the course of the last twelve months, very few heavyweights have made as much of an impact as Waldo Cortes-Acosta. He has been on fire in the UFC and in the wake of his win over Derrick Lewis, he is ready and motivated to make that next step up, with a future world title shot potentially on the horizon.

Cortes-Acosta seems to be putting it all together and although some would argue the heavyweight division isn’t very stacked right now, that isn’t what he’s focused on. Instead, his priority is a simple one: keep knocking people out and win the gold.
Unfortuantely, the future of current champion Tom Aspinall is a bit uncertain. With that in mind, Cortes-Acosta believes an interim title may be the right way to go.
Cortes-Acosta looks to the future
“If I don’t get (UFC) Mexico, I want to fight Volkov or Ciryl Gane. They’re waiting,” Cortes-Acosta told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. “I assume Tom Aspinall is not fighting anytime soon, so why not put an interim title in place? Whoever wins fights the champion, should they make the rematch between Ciryl Gane and Tom Aspinall. That would be good.”
“Any of the two are fine,” Cortes-Acosta explained. “Any of the two can put me to fight for an interim title. For example, the UFC goes, ‘Waldo, you and Volkov fight for the interim and take on the winner of the rematch between Gane and Aspinall,’ or maybe the UFC goes. ‘Ciryl Gane, fight him for the interim belt, and the winner fights Tom Aspinall.’ So any of those two options are fine with me.”
