VIDEO | UFC 217: The Thrill and the Agony Preview – What a night of emotions

By Russell Ess - November 9, 2017

UFC 217 was one of the most thrilling cards in recent memory with three title fights each crowning new champions.

Georges St-Pierre Michael Bisping

The first title fight of the night was the UFC women’s strawweight championship fight between previously unbeaten champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and challenger Rose Namajunas. Namajunas shocked the world by finishing Jedrzejczyk with strikes in the very first round.

The co-main event was fueled with bad blood between former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw. Garbrandt, like Jedrzejczyk, went into the fight as an undefeated champion but was toppled by Dillashaw who finished it with strikes in the second round.

Georges St-Pierre Michael Bisping

In the main event of the evening, we saw the return of Georges St-Pierre who previously last fought in November 2013 where he won a close and controversial split decision title fight against Johny Hendricks. GSP returned to the Octagon and stepped up a weight class to challenge UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. It was a close fight that saw both men bloodied up but in the end, GSP came out on top by putting Bisping unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the third round. In doing so, St-Pierre became the fourth fighter in history to become a two-weight UFC world champion.

It was a night full of emotions and as you hear ever so often that this sport takes you to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. UFC 217 was no exception as you can see in the UFC 217: The Thrill and the Agony Preview video above.
