Barboza met #9 ranked Beneil Dariush on the main card of the UFC Fight Night 106 event that went down in Fortaleza, Brazil. In the second round of their fight, Barboza connected with a stunning flying knee that put Dariush out cold. The spectacular finish had the UFC award Barboza with a $50,000 performance of the night bonus.
Following the fight, Barboza said he is looking to get a rematch with Tony Ferguson who was recently scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC interim lightweight title at UFC 209, which ended up being canceled due to Nurmagomedov suffering from weight management medical issues.
“I’m very happy,” Barboza said after his highlight reel knockout. “I love what I do. During this week, I said that until today the most incredible moment of my career had been the knockout of Etim and that I would like to do something similar in Fortaleza. I think I got it. I fight the best in the world, and sometimes the knockout does not come, but this time it came and I think will put me close to the belt. I want to fight Ferguson. I want a rematch. The last fight with him I took on short notice, and if the UFC gave me that opportunity, it would be five rounds of war. I want this so much.”
Barboza’s last loss was against Tony Ferguson, which took place during the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale back in December of 2015. Barboza is currently on a three-fight winning streak beating former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, former Strikeforce and WEC lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, and most recently Beneil Dariush.
