VIDEO | Conor McGregor trains alongside his father and his son

By Tom Taylor - November 29, 2018

When Conor McGregor is gearing up for a fight, he sharpens his tools alongside dangerous fighters like Artem Lobov, Dillon Danis, and Gunnar Nelson. In a recent video clip uploaded to his official Instagram account, however, he can be seen training alongside some new faces: his father Tony and his young son Conor Jr.

“We are never too young to start and never too old to learn,” Conor McGregor says in the caption for this undeniably heartwarming video.

While Conor McGregor is not currently gearing up for a fight, his 59-year-old father actually is. Tony McGregor is set to battle Off the Ball radio host Eoin Sheahan in charity boxing match on December 15th. Sheahan apparently called the McGregor patriarch out, and was promptly obliged.

“There’s two things I don’t like,” the elder McGregor told Goss.ie of the charity boxing match, “coinage and being called out.”

No word yet on when the one-year-old Conor McGregor Jr.’s pro debut will occur, but knowing this family, it’s probably a matter of time.

Conor McGregor last fought in the main event of UFC 229, when he was defeated by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The fight was his first since a headline-dominating boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August of 2017. Prior to this boxing match, McGregor had not competed in MMA since November of 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to capture the UFC lightweight strap. Given that he still owned the UFC featherweight title at the time, this made the Irishman the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions concurrently.

While nothing is official with respect to his next fight, he says he plans to fight again in 2019.
