Top ranked women’s bantamweight contender Valentina Shevchenko recently picked up a dominant 2nd round submission win over Julianna Pena at ‘UFC Fight Night: Denver’ earlier this year to cement her place as the women’s bantamweight #1 contender. The win made it 2-straight for Shevchenko, and secured her a rematch with Amanda Nunes, this time for the women’s bantamweight championship. With that being said, there had been no official date set for a potential Nunes vs. Shevchenko II showdown, leading many fight fans to wonder when the fight will take place.

When Valentina Shevchenko submitted Julianna Pena with a second-round armbar back in January, she earned herself a crack at Amanda Nunes and the UFC women’s bantamweight title. While the Kyrgyzstani fighter’s title shot has been confirmed, however, the date and location of this fight are still not known. On Sunday evening, Nunes did her best to change that, inviting Shevchenko to scrap for gold at UFC 212, which is scheduled for June 3.

Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Denver, Colorado, Kyrgyzstani striking specialist Valentina Shevchenko took on respected grappler Julianna Peña. Though Peña was expected to have a significant grappling edge in this purported style clash, Shevchenko instead flaunted her grappling chops, taking her foe down twice in the first round, and submitting her with a slick armbar in the second.

Last night, the UFC touched down in The Mile-High City, Denver, Colorado, with UFC on Fox 23. This 12-fight card was an epic one, as a whopping eight of its bouts ended with stoppages, including the evening’s main event, which pitted Kyrgyzstani striker Valentina Shevchenko against American grappling specialist Julianna Peña. In advance of this fight, the striking advantage seemed to rely firmly in the corner of Shevchenko, while Peña was believed to have an advantage on the mat. Ultimately, however, Shevchenko was able to showcase some real evolutions in her game, taking Peña down twice in the first round, and submitting her with a dazzling armbar in the second. The tap occurred at the 4:29 mark of the second frame.

Valentina Shevchenko earned herself a shot at UFC women’s bantamweight gold tonight in Denver as she scored a second-round submission victory over Julianna Pena in the main event of UFC on FOX 23. Pena seemed to be getting the better of Shevchenko early on in round two, scoring some good knees from the clinch and earning a pair of takedowns.

Fellow woman’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko tweeted on Thursday that she had signed a fight agreement with ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’, thus ruling out a potential shot at Amanda Nunes belt for Peña.

Several weeks ago, frightening news emerged that UFC women’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko was at a restaurant in Peru when a gunfight broke out between armed robbers and her coach. Shevchenko’s coach shot and killed a robber, but was shot himself in the action.

News broke this week from RPP that UFC women’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko was at a restaurant in Peru with her coach, who is also married to her sister, when an armed robbery took place. The robbers reportedly had the registers entered, and then began having customers empty their wallets. Shevchenko’s coach Pavel Fedotov produced a firearm and open fired on the 3 robbers. Fortunately he killed one of the robbers, however the other two escaped, and Fedotov was shot in the stomach.
