What’s next for UFC Prague main event fighters?

By Cole Shelton - February 24, 2019

The Octagon touched down in the Czech Republic for the first time in history yesterday. The main event of the card was a battle between two top light heavyweights, where the winner could get the next title shot.

Thiago Santos

Ultimately, Thiago Santos beat Jan Blachowicz by TKO in the third round to improve to 3-0 at light heavyweight. Now, the question is, did Santos do enough to get the next title shot?

Here is what we think should be next for Santos and Blachowicz.

Thiago Santos

Thiago Santos has been a force to be reckoned with since moving up to light heavyweight. He has three wins and all three wins have come by TKO or KO.

Following the fight, he said that he hopes to fight the winner of the upcoming UFC 235 title fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith. That is what should be next for Santos, as he is the clear-cut top contender. He already holds a win over Smith and has enough power to shock the world if he were to fight Jones.

Jan Blachowicz

Jan Blachowicz was looking to finally get an opportunity to fight for the title. All he had to do was beat Thiago Santos. Through the first two rounds, the fight was competitive. Then Blachowicz pushed forward against Santos and got caught with a punch.

It was definitely a backward step for Blachowicz, but in a light heavyweight division that is wide open, a big win over a solid opponent could have him right back in title contention.

One fight that makes sense for him is a clash with the loser of the upcoming matchup between Dominick Reyes and Volkan Oezdemir. The two are set to fight in just a few weeks time, at UFC London.
