UFC parts ways with five fighters

By Cole Shelton - March 21, 2024

The UFC has parted ways with five more fighters.

On Thursday evening, X account UFC Roster Tracker, which tracks the UFC roster and who has been added and removed, revealed five fighters have been let go. According to the account, Bryan Barberena, Carlos Candelario, Philipe Lins, Josh Parisian, and Joanne Wood are no longer listed on the UFC’s active roster.

It should be noted that being removed from the UFC roster does not mean a fighter was released. Instead, it could also mean the fighter fought out their deal and was not re-signed, and in some cases like Wood, it is due to retirement.

Middleweight: Bryan Barberena (18-12 MMA)

Bryan Barberena has been removed from the UFC roster following his submission loss to Gerald Meerschaert which was his fourth loss in a row. On the losing skid, Barberena lost to Makhmud Muradov, Gunnar Nelson by submission, and Rafael dos Anjos by submission. Barberena went 9-10 in the UFC.

Flyweight: Carlos Candelario (8-3 MMA)

Carlos Candelario went 0-2 in the UFC and last fought in November of 2022 when he was submitted by Jake Hadley in a fight where he missed weight. In his debut, he dropped a decision to Tatsuro Taira after he lost to Victor Altamirano by split decision. He was booked to fight on April 22 but was forced to pull out due to an injury.

Light heavyweight: Philipe Lins (18-5 MMA)

Philipe Lins has been removed from the UFC roster after he beat Ion Cutelaba by decision at UFC 299. Lins is on a four-fight winning streak as he also beat Maxim Grishin by decision, Ovince Saint Preux by TKO, and Marcin Prachnio by decision. Lins went 4-2 in the UFC as he signed with the promotion after winning the PFL 2018 season.

Heavyweight: Josh Parisian (15-8 MMA)

Josh Parisian has been removed from the UFC roster after his KO loss to Robelis Despaigne at UFC 299. Parisian is on a three-fight losing skid as he was submitted by Martin Buday and lost a decision to Jamal Pogues. Parisian went 2-5 in the promotion.

Women’s flyweight: Joanne Wood (17-8 MMA)

Joanne Wood has been removed from the roster following her retirement at UFC 299. Wood went 9-8 in the promotion and ended her career with a split decision win over Maryna Moroz.
