Paulo Costa takes shot at ‘scrawny’ Israel Adesanya

By Tom Taylor - February 11, 2019

On Saturday night, in the short-notice headliner of UFC 234 in Melbourne, Australia, streaking middleweight contender Israel Adesanya picked up the biggest victory of his career thus far, out-duelling former champion Anderson Silva for three, enthralling rounds, en route to a unanimous decision nod.

With this career-changing triumph in the rear-view mirror, Israel Adesanya has emerged as one of the top contenders in the perilous UFC middleweight division, and remains one of the most hyped fighters on the UFC roster.

His fellow middleweight contender Paulo Costa, however, isn’t buying that hype.

Shortly after UFC 234, Paulo Costa took to Twitter where he claimed the “scrawny” Adesanya wouldn’t last two rounds if they fought. That being said, he also assured all of is focus is currently glued to his April 27 showdown with former UFC middleweight title challenger Yoel Romero.

“This scrawny clown [Israel Adesanya] would not survive for 2 rounds with me,” Costa wrote on Twitter. “He does not convince me definitely! My focus is total on Romero in April.”

Paulo Costa is not the only fighter to take a shot at Israel Adesanya after UFC 234. Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman also took to Twitter after the card to share his thoughts on the surging middleweight contender.

He says Adesanya is “overrated.”

“Adesanya is just a tad bit overrated,” Chris Weidman wrote on Twitter early Sunday morning.

Needless to say, despite his massive victory over Anderson Silva, Israel Adesanya does not seem to have earned the respect of his peers quite yet.

Do you think we’ll see him battle his fellow unbeaten fighter Paulo Costa in 2019?
