Max Holloway explains why he thinks Alexander Volkanovski will defeat Diego Lopes again in UFC 325 headliner

Max Holloway is backing Alexander Volkanovski to score a second win over Diego Lopes at the conclusion of UFC 325.

Volkanovski and Lopes first met back in April in the UFC 314 headliner. The bout was contested for the vacant UFC Featherweight Championship. Volkanovski ended up earning the unanimous decision victory to become a two-time 145-pound champion.

Speaking on Saturday’s rematch in a new video on his YouTube channel, Holloway said he’d give the edge to Volkanovski for one key reason (via MMAJunkie).

“I feel like Alex has something that we don’t know because Alex’s been going around and saying that he’s going to make this fight look super easy,” Holloway said on his YouTube channel. “I think he wants to turn around real quick and fight. At the end of the day, I can’t go against Alex. Diego is an animal, don’t get me wrong. Diego is sick, he’s an animal. But I think I’m leaning towards Alex just because of his overall experience.”

Many have shared their opinions about the booking of Volkanovski vs. Lopes 2. Many fans and pundits called for either Movsar Evloev or Lerone Murphy to receive the next featherweight title shot. Ultimately, the UFC brass had other plans.

Lopes recently addressed those complaints when speaking to reporters during a UFC 325 media day session.

“No one is going to say ‘no’ to a title fight, right?” Lopes said. “People are going to criticize any decision the UFC makes. If the UFC gave the fight to Movsar Evloev, some people would criticize it saying, ‘Oh, but the guy hasn’t fought in a year.’ If they gave it to Lerone Murphy, another group would criticize it too saying, ‘How are you going to give a title shot to a guy who just beat someone who wasn’t even in the UFC?’”
