Jennifer Maia got a message from UFC champ-champ, Amanda Nunes on how to beat Valentina Shevchenko.

In the co-main event of UFC 255, Jennifer Maia is set to fight Shevchenko for the flyweight title. The Brazilian is a massive underdog and not many are giving her a chance. However, Maia said in the lead-up to the fight she got a lengthy message from Nunes on how to defeat Shevchenko.

“We have a friend in common and I asked him if he could talk to Amanda. She was so nice and sent a very long message to me. It was funny that at the end she apologized for the long message. So cute,” Jennifer Maia said to Sherdog.com. “Basically she told me to not let Valentina be comfortable leading the fight and impose my rhythm. She is very intelligent and reads your game plan very well, mainly when you keep doing a similar sequence. And we worked pretty hard to bring some surprises to her.”

Amanda Nunes, of course, is the only person to defeat Shevchenko as she beat her at UFC 196 by decision. They then had their rematch back at UFC 215 where the Brazilian defended her belt by split decision. It was a very close fight, but as Nunes said, the key is not letting Shevchenko get comfortable and find her range.

Jennifer Maia returned to the win column last time out with a first-round submission win over Joanne Calderwood. She is just 3-2 in her last five and is the former Invicta FC flyweight champion.

There is no question Jennifer Maia will have her hands full against Valentina Shevchenko who many consider one of the best fighters alive. However, getting advice from Nunes can only help her in the fight and try and pull off the massive upset.
