Israel Adesanya criticizes Yoel Romero who ‘never makes weight’

By Drake Riggs - May 3, 2019

Israel Adesanya is on top of the world after his massive UFC interim middleweight title victory at UFC 236 in Atlanta, Georgia in early April. However, that doesn’t make him immune to continued critique.

Israel-Adesanya-Yoel-Romero

The undefeated Nigeria native and kickboxing sensation in Adesanya would go to war with Kelvin Gastelum over the course of their five-round co-main event. In the end, it would be Adesanya who picked up the victory via unanimous decision.

Prior to this bout, the last middleweight title fight to take place in the UFC featured the likes of the undisputed champion, Robert Whittaker, and perennial top contender, Yoel Romero. The only problem is, the fight would end up being turned into a non-title bout after Romero missed weight for his second encounter with the champion.

With the high-level wrestler always waiting in the wings for his potential next shot at the gold, it wouldn’t be surprising to one day see Adesanya and Romero meet one day. And fans hope for that too.

After seeing some banter on Twitter, Adesanya threw out some critique of his own for the former Olympic silver medalist.

“…and tha f*ck what. Y’ll act like Romero is the champ, never makes weight, never won a UFC belt.
Them: ‘yOu foUGht aN OLd sIlVa!!’
Me: Anderson is 44, Yoel is 42…😂🤫

“🤨…you humpty dumpty mothaf*ckas are so dumb 😂😂😂
‘hiTtinG hiZ pHySikeL pEak LAtEr’ hahaha oh man I can’t.
Did you know he tested positive in 2015 for banned substances, accepted a 6 month sanction and kept on going? Y’all are dumb af 😂#everybodysonsteroids #ijustrollblunts” Adesanya tweeted.

The comments would, of course, prompt a simple response from Romero as he replied with, “I see you soon boi #iluhju”

The 42-year old top ranked middleweight was most recently lined up to have a rematch with Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC Fort Lauderdale which went down this past Saturday night.

Unfortunately for Romero, a case of pneumonia forced him out of the bout where he would then be replaced by Jack Hermansson who would go on to win the fight by unanimous decision.

As for the interim champ in Adesanya, he’s expected to face off with Whittaker in their title unification bout in October at UFC 243.
