Ian Machado Garry has no regrets over wearing a T-shirt with a mugshot of his UFC 298 opponent Geoff Neal.

Garry was expected to share the Octagon with Neal at UFC 292 back in August 2023. Neal was removed from the bout and replaced by Neil Magny. Garry defeated Magny via one-sided unanimous decision. Prior to Neal being removed from the UFC 292 card, Garry took photos of himself wearing a T-shirt with an image of Neal’s mugshot front and center.

Many thought it was a tasteless act by “The Future,” but he couldn’t care less.

Ian Machado Garry Doesn’t Regret Going After Geoff Neal’s Arrest

Speaking to reporters during a UFC 298 media scrum, Ian Machado Garry said that he raised Neal’s profile with that shirt. He thought it was a funny moment, and is unapologetic over it (via MMAJunkie.com).

“The T-shirt was a f*cking laugh, and it worked,” Garry said at Wednesday’s UFC 298 media day. “He didn’t show up, and I believe he was pissed for that first fight and didn’t show up because of the T-shirt.

“Look, I have zero regrets for making that T-shirt. It was funny. The truth is that no one knew who Geoff was. No one knew the fight was booked until I made the T-shirt, and then everybody started talking about it. We’re in the fight game, and we’re trying to sell fights and entertain. After that point, everybody knew about it. Before that, no one knew.”

Believe it or not, Garry says he does have respect for Neal’s durability. He’s expecting the fight to go the distance.

“For me, it’s just a matter of time until he makes a mistake. I expect Geoff to be tough and be there for all 15 minutes, unless I do my job well and I make him make that mistake.”
