Dustin Poirier remains confident he will have his trilogy with Conor McGregor.

At UFC 257, Poirier and McGregor had a rematch over six years in the making. The first time they met, they fought at featherweight and it was McGregor winning by first-round knockout. However, in the rematch, it was Poirier who got the job done with a second-round knockout.

After the event, many wondered if a trilogy would happen next. Some thought Poirier would face Charles Oliveira for the vacant belt, but it appears “The Diamond” is interested in facing McGregor again.

“You know we are going to do it a 3rd time,” Poirier tweeted.

It should come as no surprise to see Dustin Poirier want the trilogy with Conor McGregor. The Irishman and his team have called for it to happen and Poirier has made it clear he wants these big fights as he even called for a scrap with Nate Diaz. In MMA, there is no bigger fight than taking on McGregor and the trilogy would likely do big business especially if it is for the belt.

Prior to the win over McGregor, Dustin Poirier had a Fight of the Year contender against Dan Hooker in June where he edged out a decision. It got him back into the win column after he suffered a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title. He also is the former interim champ and holds notable wins over Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Max Holloway, and Anthony Pettis.

Conor McGregor, meanwhile, is now 1-2 in his last three but his two losses are against two of the best lightweights in Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Before the setback to Poirier, the Irishman TKO’d Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds at UFC 246.
