On May 4, in the main event of UFC Ottawa, fan favorite lightweight contender Donald Cerrone picked up an impressive decision victory over Al Iaquinta. Days later, and in classic “Cowboy” fashion, he accepted a June 8 matchup with top lightweight contender Tony Ferguson.

It should surprise absolutely nobody Cowboy was out doing classic Cowboy things when the UFC called up up and offered him this short-notice fighter with the streaking Ferguson. In fact, he was on a cave diving trip.

Donald Cerrone explained his decision to put down his guacamole and beer, and get back into fight camp, in a recent post to his Instagram account.

“Was down Cave Diving when the UFC called! “ hey want to fight in 3 weeks?” I said hell yessss dropped the bowl of guacamole and set the beer down 🤷🏼‍♂️ hopped the next bird home and ready to rock June 8 in Chicago” – Donald Cerrone on Instagram.

Donald Cerrone will enter this fight with Ferguson, which is featured on the UFC 238 main card, on a three fight streak. His two most recent wins — the decision defeat of Al Iaquinta and a TKO of Alex Hernandez — occurred in the lightweight division. His next most recent win occurred up in the welterweight division, where he defeated knockout puncher Mike Perry by submission in the first round. The fan favorite lightweight gunslinger is currently 36-11-0 and ranked fourth in the division.

Tony Ferguson, meanwhile, is currently on an 11-fight streak. He’s ranked third in the lightweight division and holds an overall record of 24-3-0.

Do you think Donald Cerrone will come out on top in this short notice UFC 238 fight?
