Diego Lopes shares positive injury update following UFC 325 loss against Alexander Volkanovski

Diego Lopes received some good news from doctors after all.
Once Lopes fell short in his second bid to capture the UFC Featherweight Championship against Alexander Volkanovski, the initial fear was that he may have broken both his feet. Lopes’ manager Jason House shared the first update, which painted a rough picture, but things are looking up.
In a new update post on his Instagram Stories, Lopes revealed that he won’t need to go under the knife.
“Everything is fine,” Lopes wrote. “The initial diagnosis at arena was that I might have broken both feet. We went to the hospital, they ran tests and everything was fine—just some fractures in both feet but surgery isn’t necessary. I’ll be using boots and crutches for a few weeks.”
Barring a setback, it appears Lopes may have avoided a substantial amount of time on the shelf. The top featherweight title contender will have to take things easy for a bit, but it’s certainly better than the first observation suggested. Now, Lopes can focus on what he hopes to be a speedy recovery.
When Lopes recovers, he’ll go back to the drawing board after dropping another bout to “The Great.” Lopes has gone 1-2 in his last three outings with two of those losses being against Volkanovski. Before his first encounter with the reigning featherweight champion, Lopes had earned a five-fight winning streak.
During that streak, Lopes defeated Brian Ortega, Dan Ige, Sodiq Yusuff, Pat Sabatini, and Gavin Tucker. Following his first defeat to Volkanovski, Lopes scored a second-round TKO finish over Jean Silva, who had been riding a wave of momentum with a 13-fight winning streak.
Lopes had three fights in 2025 and he’ll look to match that if he can recover in timely fashion.
