Dana White’s bold claim on Alex Pereira’s all-time GOAT status backed by rising UFC star: “Nobody has ever done that”

Dana White isn’t the only one who thinks Alex Pereira would cement himself as the MMA GOAT if he wins at UFC Freedom 250.

On Sunday, Pereira will collide with Ciryl Gane in the co-main event of UFC’s historic show on the White House lawn. “Poatan” and Gane will be competing for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. While Jon Jones is largely viewed as the greatest MMA fighter of all time depending on how you view his past failed drug tests, White believes Pereira would surpass him if he becomes a three-division champion.

Mauricio Ruffy was asked if he agrees with White during a UFC Freedom 250 media day session (live stream via MMAJunkie).

“For sure,” Ruffy said. “He’s already one of the greatest athletes in the history [of MMA], but if he wins on Sunday, obviously the best. Three belts in three different weight divisions. For sure, he wins on Sunday, nobody has ever done that. He would be undisputed, he would definitely be [the greatest MMA fighter of all time].”

Some argue that Pereira winning an interim title won’t be enough to seal the deal for the MMA GOAT spot. Tom Aspinall remains the main champion and until Pereira can prove he stands above both Gane and the Salford native, his place on the all-time list will be debated.

Ruffy has his own bout lined up at the White House lawn. He is set to face crowd-pleaser Michael Chandler. Many believe Chandler is on his way down, while Ruffy is on the rise. Despite the general consensus, “One Shot” told media members that he is treating Sunday’s bout like a title fight because he respect Chandler’s grit and determination.
