Kamaru Usman sends message to welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, Woodley responds
Tom Taylor - May 20, 2018
Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s anticipated debut in the South American nation of Chile, surging UFC welterweight contender Kamaru Usman authored his best win yet, braving a tough first round to pick up a dominant, unanimous decision win over the veteran Demian Maia. Usman’s win became even more impressive post-fight, when he divulged that he believed he’d broken both of his hands early in the contest. With this win over Maia, Usman improved to a solid 13-1 overall, and a flawless 8-0 in the UFC’s Octagon. Needless to say, he’s now one of the welterweight division’s top contenders, and is in sprinting distance of a fight with reigning champion Tyron Woodley.
Tyron Woodley says he'll start training with Floyd Mayweather next week
Tom Taylor - May 18, 2018
For a time, Floyd Mayweather’s potential move to the perilous world of mixed martial arts was all anybody was talking about. When Mayweather suggested that he’d be preparing for this undeniably risky career change under the tutelage of UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, buzz about his MMA move reached a deafening crescendo. Over the last few weeks, however, this talk has quieted down significantly. Mayweather and his camp have grown quiet about a potential MMA move, and the fans seem to have lost interest in seeing it happen.

Tyron Woodley fires back at Kelvin Gastelum after recent rematch comments
Tom Taylor - May 7, 2018
Back in 2015, Tyron Woodley stepped into the cage for a bout with The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum, who missed the welterweight limit by 10 pounds. On that night, Woodley walked away with a close, split decision win. Years later, Gastelum still feels he won the fight, and that the cage-side judges should have sided with him over Woodley. Though he’s now firmly embedded as a member of the UFC middleweight roster, he hopes to return to the welterweight division in the future for a do-over with Woodley; for a chance to “make it right.”

Former welterweight Kelvin Gastelum is now firmly embedded as a member of the UFC middleweight roster, having earned the number-five spot in the divisional rankings. The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 winner’s next middleweight bout will occur at UFC 224 this May 12, when he takes on Brazilian grappling ace Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a fight that could well produce the division’s next title contender.

Tyron Woodley expects "gatekeeper" Thompson to dispatch of Till so he doesn't have to
Tom Taylor - March 30, 2018
Having not lost a single MMA bout, Darren Till has been rocketing toward UFC welterweight title contention for some time. In the opinion of UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, however, Till’s momentum will stop in his next fight, when he battles two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. “‘Wonderboy’ the gatekeeper,” Woodley said in a recent Q&A on Instagram Live (via MMAJunkie). “He’ll do all my light work for me. All the dudes that think they want a shot at the strap, they’ve got to go through him, and ain’t nobody do it yet. I think Thompson [beat Till] man, to be honest. I know I’ve talked a lot of trash about Thompson, more in light joking. But Thompson is a very difficult puzzle to figure out. And it took me a lot of time, a lot of money, a lot of training partners to figure him out.”
Tyron Woodley questions RDA's choice to fight Covington: he could have fought me next
Tom Taylor - March 30, 2018
Though the UFC hasn’t made it official just yet, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is expected to battle Colby Covington for interim welterweight gold at UFC 224 this May 12. Speaking during a recent Instagram live video session, the division’s undisputed champ Tyron Woodley questioned dos Anjos’ choice to accept this fight. In his eyes, dos Anjos would have been wiser to hold out for a shot at the true welterweight title.

Chris Taylor - March 24, 2018
Tyron Woodley wants to return in July, so why is the promotion creating an interim title? Tyron Woodley captured his UFC welterweight title by scoring a jaw dropping first-round knockout victory over Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 201 in July of 2016.
Tyron Woodley reacts to Dos Anjos vs. Covington interim title news
Tom Taylor - March 23, 2018
Yesterday morning, Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com reported that UFC 224 will feature an interim welterweight title fight between top contenders Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington. While this news was met by a tidal wave of excitement among fans, a few members of the MMA community pointed out that it’s been far less than a year since reigning welterweight champion Tyron Woodley fought. His most recent fight also marked the end of a busy stretch during which he fought 4 times in just 12 months. The need for an interim title fight, then would seem to be nonexistent…

Tom Taylor - March 15, 2018
Last week, we learned that UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley had offered to help undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. prepare for his much-discussed move to MMA. Speaking to TMZ this week, Mayweather confirmed that he plans to take Woodley up on this offer. “I’m going to start soon,” Mayweather said (h/t MMAJunkie). “We’ve been texting back and forth. We talked a couple times, but we’re going to start working out real soon.”
BREAKING | Tyron Woodley to Train Floyd Mayweather in MMA
Justin Golightly - March 9, 2018
What are the odds? Turns out pretty good. Floyd Mayweather has been teasing a transition into MMA like a politician, flipping and flopping on whether it will really happy or not. Dana White revealed the talks were true, until Mayweather called him a liar and then proceeded to continue to post social media winks on his account. However, this recent news is the biggest confirmation yet. UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley had linked up with Moeny Mayweather to help prepare him for his UFC debut. “Floyd Mayweather is interested in taking a mixed martial art bout, maybe a few of them, so who better than The Chose One to teach him the ropes on how we get off the ropes and get in the cage. I saw him at the Jordan party during the All-Star weekend, we started chatting about training MMA and we decided let’s connect, let’s hook up in Vegas and do some training. Get him ready for MMA. Y’all think it’s a joke but think about this: Floyd Mayweather’s one of the best strikers of all times. How many guys in the UFC that can’t wrestle, and can’t grapple and they consider themselves a stand-up fighter? If they have to stand across from one of the greatest strikers ever, they’re gonna be in a world of smoke.”
Tyron Woodley identifies his "toughest matchup in the universe"
Tom Taylor - March 8, 2018
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has proven he’s an extremely difficult man to beat, having bested top-flight foes in Robbie Lawler, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Demian Maia and many others. That said, the champ has tasted defeat in the past, most recently to reigning Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald. Given the fact that Woodley has lost to MacDonald, some fans now consider MacDonald the top welterweight in the world. In a Twitter poll posted by MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, this seemed to be the consensus.
Tyron Woodley wants a "money fight" next and the UFC should give it to him!
Chris Taylor - February 17, 2018
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is hoping to cash in on a “money fight” in his next octagon appearance and in my opinion he deserves it. Since capturing the UFC welterweight title by destroying Robbie Lawler with a first-round knockout at UFC 201 in July of 2016, “The Chosen One” has proceeded to defend his title on three occasions against the welterweight divisions top contenders.
New Training Partner Drops Tease About Nate Diaz's Next Fight
Justin Golightly - February 13, 2018
The plot continually thickens on the mystery of Nate Diaz potentially fighting Tyron Woodley. It was talking about, debated about, then put to rest. However, all of the sudden it looked like an option once again, until it was squashed by Dana White, which resulted in Woodley himself calling the man a liar. The most recent development is this curious post of Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance’s Jordan Williams. He was specifically chosen by Nate Diaz to prep him for his next fight. “I am not going to lie, it feels pretty damn good when someone as good as caliber as Nate Diaz makes a special request for you to train with them to make sure they get a good look for a future fight that’s most likely going to happen. When you are preparing for war, it is best to practice your fight strategies against the highest level lieutenants in the army that you have. Thank you Nate Diaz for rolling up to Petaluma and getting that work put in with the squad.” – Jordan Williams via his official Instagram.
Rashad Evans Advises Tyron Woodley to Quit Wasting Energy on Qualms with Dana White
Drake Riggs - February 12, 2018
Before Jon Jones came and took over the light heavyweight division, the 205-pound UFC title went through a revolving door of champions. From 2007 to 2011, the title was never defended more than once and saw five title changes. Right in the middle of what some called “the golden age” where 205 was one of MMA’s greatest divisions, The Ultimate Fighter season 2 winner, ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans obtained some of that gold. Evans was undefeated at the time and was a large personality who felt he wasn’t quite getting what he deserved. Something Evans believes is similar to the situation of a certain champion today. Evans spoke about the comparison today with MMAFighting:
