After lengthy reign as the UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley is now without a title belt. The former champ lost this distinction at UFC 235, when he was thumped to a decision defeat by Kamaru Usman. That being said, Woodley’s journey is far from over. The former champion is determined to reclaim the UFC welterweight belt, and seeks to emulate Georges St-Pierre as he looks to rebound from his setback against Usman.

Following UFC 235 and former UFC welterweight champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler’s (18-3) somewhat controversial first-round submission loss to Ben Askren, the idea from UFC President Dana White was to run the fight back as soon as possible. Well, one of Lawler’s old fights will be ran back alright… But it won’t be that one. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has since reported that verbal agreements are in place for Lawler to rematch with Askren’s good friend and teammate, the man who dethroned Lawler, Tyron Woodley (19-4-1) at UFC Minneapolis on June 29.

Former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, who just lost the title to Kamaru Usman, doesn’t believe McGregor is in a position to be making these kinds of demands. In an interview with TMZ, Woodley suggested McGregor fight him first. If the Irishman is able to clear that huge hurdle, he’ll be in a much more favorable position.

Following his fight, Askren planned to walk out and corner his teammate Tyron Woodley in his title fight with Kamaru Usman. The UFC initially approved of Askren serving as a cornerman. However, after his fight, the UFC wouldn’t allow it.

In the end, Jones beat Smith by unanimous decision, while Usman dominated Woodley to hear ‘And New.’ Askren also locked up a controversial submission over Lawler to get his first UFC win.
