Paul Hughes set to headline PFL Belfast in first fight since dropping Usman Nurmagomedov rematch

Professional Fighters League superstar Paul Hughes will look to get back into the lightweight title mix when he returns to fight on April 16.
Two-time Professional Fighters League title challenger Paul Hughes will return to the cage later this year for the first time since his second defeat to Usman Nurmagomedov.
Hughes is one of the biggest names in the PFL today, as the 28-year-old has defeated the likes of AJ McKee, Bruno Miranda, and Bobby King during his promotional tenure. Despite some fans calling for the supremely talented Hughes to leave the promotion for the UFC, Hughes has remained loyal to the promotion that continues to give him high-profile fights.
As Hughes looks to get back into the lightweight title mix, he’ll face another talented up-and-comer as the PFL returns to Belfast in April.
Paul Hughes vs. Jay Jay Wilson headlines PFL Belfast
As announced by the PFL in a press release, Hughes will face Jay-Jay Wilson (11-2-0) in the PFL Belfast main event on April 16th. Wilson returns to the cage following a loss to surging contender Archie Colgan in October.
Wilson has earned wins over the likes of Mads Burnell, Mansour Barnaoui, and Pedro Carvalho in his promotional tenure. A win over Hughes would boost Wilson back into the lightweight title discussion.
Hughes will need to go on another impressive win streak to potentially make the case for a third matchup with Nurmagomedov in the future. Nurmagomedov defeated Alfie Davis by third-round submission earlier this month in his most-recent title defense, and is expected to face Colgan for his next fight.
Hughes vs. Wilson promises fireworks in the PFL Belfast main event. The full card for PFL Belfast is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
