Frank Mir on Mark Hunt's power: 'By far the hardest punch I've ever received in my career'

Many fans of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir thought the referee stopped the fight with Mark Hunt too early. After Hunt landed a devastating strike to Mir’s head that sent him to the canvas at UFC Fight Night 85, Mir spoke on the Phone Booth Fighting podcast about how he was feeling when the fight was called to an end (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “Yes, it was a good stoppage,” Mir said. “My lights were on, but I had no bearings on where anything was coming from. So the effectiveness of me being able to defend myself was very low at that point.”

Urijah Faber is currently gearing up for his UFC 199 trilogy fight with bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz on June 4th, however the MMA veteran is currently in Maui enjoying the beach. Coincidentally, Faber ran into UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos on the beach as well. Faber pointed out that dos Anjos was “hobbling” on one foot due to the broken foot which forced him out of his UFC 196 main event scrap with Conor McGregor.

While we are now less than one month out from UFC 197, where Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will have their highly anticipated rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship, it appears there is a chance the champ is injured. A report emerged from TalkMMA on Twitter that DC was spotted at a wrestling tournament barely able to talk. While this could simply be due to soreness from a tough training session, the report pinpoints DC’s left leg as the source of pain.

Back in 2009, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko made his Strikeforce debut as he knocked out Brett Rogers in the 2nd round of their headlining fight. In just his second Strikeforce fight, Emelianenko was submitted by Jiu-Jitsu phenom Fabricio Werdum. To this day, the loss remains the only submission loss on Emelianenko’s record. Now, following a successful return to MMA on New Years Eve, Emelianenko is looking to avenge his loss to Werdum, who is now the UFC heavyweight champion.
