While Khabib Nurmagomedov may be ranked as the #1 contender at lightweight on the UFC’s official rankings, the undefeated Dagestani fighter has yet to have an official date set for a title fight with UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. Nurmagomedov, who is coming off a successful outing in his return fight to the Octagon earlier this year against Darrell Horcher, has been campaigning for a fight with Eddie Alvarez, who has continued to say Nurmagomedov isn’t worthy.

Following UFC 202’s record breaking event, last weekend’s UFC on FOX 21 was the first time a FOX card averaged less than two million viewers, according to a final rating analysis for all 2016 UFC cards on FOX. Headlined by former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit and Demian Maia, UFC on FOX 21 pulled in a meager 1.9 million viewers, compared to UFC on FOX 20, which recorded a 2.9 million viewership back in July.

This past Saturday in Vancouver, Demian Maia picked up arguably the biggest win of his UFC career as he submitted Carlos Condit in the first round of their main event scrap. The finish was a beautiful one that left many MMA fans stunned given that Condit had never been submitted in the UFC, and possess some of the most lethal standup striking in the UFC’s 170 pound division.

In the wake of UFC 202, much has been made of Conor McGregor’s record-breaking payday of $3 million. Of course, that payday doesn’t hold a candle to some of the recent purses of boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, who has piled up hundreds of millions over his last few fights. Considering the paltry paydays of many other fighters, it’s not surprising there’s a bit of jealousy when McGregor and Mayweather’s massive paydays are discussed. In the case of upcoming UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem, however, it’s not a case of jealousy, but complete disbelief.

Leading up to Conor McGregor’s UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz earlier this month, UFC President Dana White stated that regardless of whether or not McGregor wins or loses, he will be forced to return to featherweight and defend his championship. While McGregor has continued to remain noncommittal in regards to returning to featherweight, UFC President Dana White seems to be confident that McGregor will return to featherweight without the UFC brass having to play hard ball.

UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson has put in the work, racking up seven-straight wins, including triumphs over fighters like Robert Whittaker, Jake Ellenberger, Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald. Now, all he wants his a welterweight title shot–ideally at UFC 205 in New York City this November. Unfortunately, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who won the the belt by snuffing Robbie Lawler in July, seems to have other plans. If the new champ has his way, his first defense will be a ‘money fight’ opposite welterweight great Georges St-Pierre, or fan favorite Nick Diaz–not against Thompson.

The former Strikeforce, DREAM, and K-1 champion says that he will make history when he goes to fight Cleveland’s UFC heavyweight champion on his home turf.
