Tom Taylor - April 11, 2017
When streaking middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi stepped into the Octagon with Chris Weidman at last Saturday’s UFC 210, it marked the final obligation on his current UFC contract. Though it was not without controversy, he was able to win this final contracted fight, and will now be able to test free agency as one of the hottest middleweights in the world. This weekend, when the UFC returns to Fox, streaking Brazilian middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will look to follow in Mousasi’s footsteps, closing out his current contract with a win over the dangerous Robert Whittaker.

Russell Ess - April 10, 2017
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently sitting on the sidelines with his one-year suspension for testing positive for banned substances. Jones tested positive for the banned substances clomiphene and letrozole and was notified days before his scheduled UFC 200 title unification bout against champion Daniel Cormier. Jones claimed that the positive test for the banned substances was due to taking a tainted sexual performance pill. However, arbitrators in his hearing ruled Jones responsible for testing positive saying that he did not do his research for checking what the pill consisted of and if any of it was on the banned substances list.
Cris "Cyborg" Justino issues statement on her inactivity and her future in the UFC
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017
Now 2-0 in the UFC, and firmly embedded as a member of the promotion’s roster, Brazilian star Cris “Cyborg” Justino has vacated the Invicta Fighting Championship featherweight throne. Unfortunately, it’s been almost 10 month since Cyborg’s last fight in the Octagon – a September destruction of Lina Lansberg – and as such, the dangerous fighter is becoming a bit agitated. The reasons for Cyborg’s recent inactivity, of course, are manifold. Part of the reason it’s been so long since we last saw her in the cage is that she needed time to recover from two gruelling cuts to 140 pounds. Another reason for her continued inactivity is that the UFC’s reigning featherweight champion, Germaine De Randamie, is currently sidelined with injuries.
Joe Rogan gets 'drunk on a plane,' reminisces on good times with Mike Goldberg
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has had plenty of company at the broadcast booth during his last few assignments, as he has been accompanied by some combination of Jon Anik, Dominick Cruz, and Daniel Cormier. Until the beginning of this year, however, Rogan generally only shared the broadcast desk with one man: Mike Goldberg. Goldberg, however, was let go by the UFC in late 2017, as part of a string of layoffs effected by the promotion’s new owners, WME-IMG. The long-time play-by-play man did his last broadcast at December’s UFC 207, with nothing in the way of fanfare or thanks.
Daniel Cormier trashes Jon Jones' brother, makes fun of his size
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

Shortly thereafter, the champ took the opportunity to engage in brief verbal battles with two of the light heavyweight division’s top contenders: streaking British striker Jimi Manuwa, and former champion Jon Jones – the only man he’s lost to and by far his biggest rival. Apparently, Cormier also exchanged a few words with Jones’ brother, Arthur, a former defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts and current free agent in the NFL. At the UFC 210 post-fight press conference, Cormier addressed this brief exchange with his rival’s brother, and commented on the football players physique.
Luke Rockhold calls for interim title fight, Dana White responds
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017
The middleweight title picture is currently a bit chaotic, as reigning champ Michael Bisping is poised to defend his title against Georges St-Pierre, a former welterweight champion who has never fought at middleweight before. Unsurprisingly, this news has not gone over well with the many more deserving contenders at middleweight, such as former champ Luke Rockhold. In a recent interview with TSN (via BloodyElbow.com), Rockhold explained that he believes this controversial middleweight title fight has created a need for an interim title fight to keep the contendership conversation moving properly.
Retired Anthony Johnson gives new statement on "The End of Rumble"
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017
On Saturday night, Anthony Johnson – more widely known by the nickname “Rumble” – came up short in a light heavyweight title fight with Daniel Cormier, succumbing to a second-round rear-naked choke. Shortly after this failed title bid, the fearsome light heavyweight contender surprised the world by announcing that he’d be retiring from mixed martial arts to focus on a new career –apparently one unrelated to the sport. “This was my last fight,” he told Octagon commentator Joe Rogan shortly after his loss. “I didn’t tell anybody. I didn’t even tell Dana White. My coaches knew, my family knew and my friends knew. I didn’t want any distractions. But I have to thank you all for being there for me. I gave my commitment to another job. Something that I have wanted to do for a while. It is not MMA related or anything like that. It is just time for me to move on to something else. I’m tired of getting punched by guys and rolling around on the ground with guys and stuff like that. Ain’t nothing fun about that.”
Chris Weidman's corner's live reaction to controversial Gegard Mousasi stoppage
Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017
Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 210, Chris Weidman experienced a controversial TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi. The controversy followed a Mousasi knee, which at first appeared to be illegal – forcing a confusing pause in the action – but was ultimately deemed legal, resulting in a Mousasi win. Part of the reason the fight wasn’t allowed to continue after the knee was deemed legal is because Weidman couldn’t tell the referee what day it was. According to live audio of Weidman’s corner, however, this might not actually be a cause for concern.
