Demetrious Johnson opens up on fighter pay as champion

bjpenndotcom - April 13, 2017

The topic of fighter pay is one that has long been discussed by fighters, and has continued to see the UFC receive criticism from fighters who feel as though the promotion doesn’t fairly compensate their fighters. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is arguably the most dominant fighter on the UFC roster, going undefeated since his 2011 loss to Dominick Cruz, which to this day remains the only UFC loss on his record. This weekend, Johnson will look to tie UFC legend Anderson Silva’s record for most successful UFC title defenses when he faces Wilson Reis in a highly anticipated ‘UFC on FOX’ showdown.

Joe Rogan weighs in on Mousasi-Weidman controversy

bjpenndotcom - April 13, 2017

This past weekend at UFC 210, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman stepped into the Octagon with Gegard Mousasi in hopes of snapping a 2-fight skid that had seen him lose the UFC middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in 2015 before then being viciously knocked out by Yoel Romero in November. In the fight with Mousasi, Weidman was declared TKO after a pair of controversial knees from Mousasi which ultimately ended up being legal despite Weidman believing that they were in fact illegal knees.

Urijah Faber gives prediction for Cody Garbrandt vs. TJ Dillashaw bantamweight title fight

Tom Taylor - April 13, 2017

Urijah Faber, who recently retired from MMA and will soon be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, is the mentor of reigning bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. He was also the mentor of former champion TJ Dillashaw, until Dillashaw left Faber’s Sacramento camp, creating one of MMA’s most visible feuds in the process. As such, Faber’s analysis of the next UFC bantamweight title fight, which will see Garbrandt attempt to defend the title against his former training partner Dillashaw, is incredibly interesting.

Jon Jones once again rips Daniel Cormier over 'TowelGate' incident

Tom Taylor - April 13, 2017

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier scored an impressive, second-round submission win over the ever-dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Regrettably, Cormier’s win was not without controversy. On the Friday morning before his battle with Rumble, Cormier stepped onto the scale and weighed in a 206.2 pounds, 1.2 pounds over the required weight for a light heavyweight title fight. Initially, it looked as though disaster had struck. Cormier was over weight, and it appeared the title fight would be off. But then, in an unprecedented twist, he was allowed to weigh in again just minutes later, and this time, he met the required weight of 205 pounds. That’s where the controversy emerged.

De Randamie vs. Cyborg title fight likely not happening at UFC 214, Cyborg now wants July bout with Megan Anderson

Tom Taylor - April 12, 2017

Having defeated Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg in the UFC’s Octagon in 2016, Cris “Cyborg” Justino is now firmly embedded as a member of the promotion’s roster. As such, she was recently asked to vacate her Invicta featherweight title, which in turn meant that interim featherweight champion Megan Anderson was promoted to undisputed champ. No longer tied to Invicta, Cyborg has recently had her sights set firmly on Germaine De Randamie, who captured the UFC’s inaugural women’s featherweight title with a decision defeat of Holly Holm earlier this year.

If you don’t own it, don’t treat it as if it were your own unless you’re willing to pay for it. Those are the thoughts that Platinum Executive Travel had running through their mind after seeing an Instagram post from UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor standing on the hood of one of their Rolls-Royce Wraith rentals, which is believed to be worth around $300,000. McGregor said in the caption of his photo standing on the luxury car, “Liverpool we run your entire city.”

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor certainly sparked a bit of a trend when he began to pursue a fight with undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. In the time since McGregor began to call for a fight with Mayweather, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva once again began to call for a showdown with Roy Jones Jr. Now, ahead of his UFC 212 featherweight title fight against interim champion Max Holloway on June 3rd, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo spoke with media members to also call for a boxing match.

Charles Oliveira suspended by NYSAC

bjpenndotcom - April 12, 2017

In a shocking move, Charles Oliveira has been suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission for his celebration following his first round submission win over Will Brooks. After winning the fight, Oliveira celebrated as many fighters do, by jumping the cage. That didn’t sit too well with the New York State Athletic Commission, who handed Oliveira a 60-day suspension for the action. That of course is on top of the mandatory minimum 7-day medical suspension Oliveira received following his lightweight debut. The win over Brooks was certainly a much needed one for Oliveira, who found himself going into 2017 on a 2-fight skid that saw him drop a ‘UFC Fight Night: Vancouver’ submission loss to Anthony Pettis nine months ago, before then dropping a submission loss to Ricardo Lamas at the TUF Latin America 3 Finale back in November of 2016. With his 2-fight losing streak now snapped, Oliveira has found himself at #9 on the UFC’s official featherweight rankings.

Back in March of 2016, Nate Diaz shocked the world by tapping out the seemingly unbeatable Conor McGregor. Several months later, in the main event of August’s UFC 202, McGregor and Diaz went at it again. Unsurprisingly, the buildup to this anticipated rematch was highlighted by plenty of memorable trash talk and confrontations. The crescendo of the pair’s pre-fight beef was there infamous press conference bottle fight, during which they pelted one another with water bottles, energy drink cans, coffee cups, and various other drinking vessels turned projectiles.

Daniel Cormier once again defends holding towel at weigh-ins

bjpenndotcom - April 12, 2017

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier stirred up quite a bit of controversy on Friday at the UFC 210 early weigh-ins prior to his UFC 210 showdown with Anthony Johnson on Saturday evening. Cormier missed weight on his first attempt, weighing in at 206.2 pounds; 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds, before then reemerging just over two minutes later and weighing-in at 205 pounds. While Cormier did make weight on the second attempt, he used his hands on the privacy towel to give himself leverage so as to offset his weight and help him in making weight without having to cut the remaining 1.2 pounds. Immediately following the controversial situation, Cormier denied leaning on the towel to help him make weight, maintaining that he was simply attempting to prevent his manhood from being shown.
