Several months later, in the main event of August’s UFC 202, McGregor and Diaz went at it again. Unsurprisingly, the buildup to this anticipated rematch was highlighted by plenty of memorable trash talk and confrontations. The crescendo of the pair’s pre-fight beef was there infamous press conference bottle fight, during which they pelted one another with water bottles, energy drink cans, coffee cups, and various other drinking vessels turned projectiles.

Top ranked UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson recently found himself without a fight when his UFC 208 opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was forced out of their co-main event interim lightweight title fight the day before they were set to throw down. Following Nurmagomedov’s withdrawal from the fight, Ferguson was left without an opponent after he & the UFC were able to reach an agreement over a fill-in opponent on 24 hours notice.

Despite being one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, Stockton, California’s Nate Diaz has not been seen in the cage since he gave up a competitive decision to Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 202 back in August. In a recent interview with TMZ, UFC President Dana White said that the UFC has attempted to correct Diaz’s long absence from the cage by making him several fight offers, but that he has turned them all down. The UFC boss then suggested that this is because Diaz is holding out for a third fight with McGregor.

While there has been widespread discussion about rescheduling this Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov bout, Ferguson is instead interested in a fight with fan favorite Nate Diaz.

In that fight, McGregor was awarded a majority decision after 5 hard-fought rounds. For McGregor the win avenged his UFC 196 loss to the younger Diaz brother back in May, where Nate stepped in for Rafael dos Anjos on short notice and handed McGregor the first loss of his UFC career.
