Michael Page voices frustration over Conor Benn $15M Zuffa Boxing deal: ‘Values people outside the sport’

Michael Page isn’t pleased with Conor Benn’s reported deal with Zuffa Boxing.
Benn reportedly signed a one-fight deal worth $15 million in Dana White’s boxing promotion. It’s a hefty payday, and Page admits it’s frustrating to see White spend more money on boxers than the actual sport he’s been promoting for decades.
“I feel like everyone is trying to get me in trouble here,” Page said on The Boys in the Back. “It’s not something I’m happy about. When the announcement of the Paramount, big money partnership came, people were asking me, are you excited about this? My answer was, what does it mean for the fighters? Until we understand how that will translate to the fighters, there’s nothing really to be excited about. I heard about, if you want to call it an increase to, the bonus structure. This is why I wasn’t bothered to be excited, for me, that doesn’t do enough, compared to the amount of money they just brought in for themselves.
“Dana White has always been excited about the boxing world, and doing other things, like the Slap Fighting. But, to see how highly he values people outside the sport that kind of built his reputation is just upsetting, to be fair.”
Page isn’t the first UFC fighter to scoff at Benn’s deal with Zuffa boxing, as Sean O’Malley was also frustrated with his payday.
Although Page is frustrated with Benn’s pay, it unfortunately won’t change anything about his pay or UFC fighters’ pay. So, the focus for Page is to just continue to win fights and hopefully collect bonuses, which have risen to $100,000 and a $25,000 finish bonus.
Michael Page is set to return at UFC London against Sam Patterson. He’s 24-3 as a pro and coming off a win over Jared Cannonier. Before that, he beat Shara Magomedov in his middleweight UFC debut. But he’ll return to welterweight at UFC London.
