Matt Mitrione books first Bellator opponent

By Chris Taylor - April 23, 2016

Former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione (9-5 MMA) will make his Bellator debut at June’s “Bellator Dynamite 2” event in St. Louis, Missouri.

“Meathead” will meet Carl Seumanutafa in the event’s co-main event slot.

Mitrione is coming off back-to-back losses while fighting under the UFC banner. He suffered a third-round TKO loss to Travis Browne in January, which was proceeded by a first-round submission loss to Ben Rothwell in June of 2015.

Prior to the setbacks, Mitrione had put together a three-fight win streak which included first-round knockout victories over Gabriel Gonzaga, Derrick Lewis and Shawn Jordan.

Meanwhile, Carl Seumanutafa (10-6 MMA) scored a knockout victory over Javy Ayala in his promotional debut at Bellator 148. The veteran heavyweight has won two of his past three fights.

Bellator’s Dynamite 2 event takes place June 24 in St. Louis. The event includes a catch-weight fight between Quinton Jackson and Satoshi Ishii.
