Luke Rockhold not willing to ‘lose money to go fight’, wants better deal for potential Chris Weidman rematch at UFC 230

As UFC 230 began to stack up last month, it did so with a plethora of awesome top 10 middleweight matchups. One of which included a rematch between former champions.

Luke Rockhold

Late in July, it was reported that the second encounter between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman was in the works for the New York City return on November 3rd.

The announcement came as a bit of a surprise as Rockhold had been teasing a move up to the light heavyweight division prior to this. He was even rumored at a point to be getting a bout with the perennial top contender at 205-pounds, Alexander Gustafsson.

But not so fast… After speaking with MMAJunkie recently, Rockhold revealed that nothing is official for UFC 230 yet and won’t be until he gets a better contract.

“No pen to paper. Of course, it’s (the fight) intriguing. Madison Square Garden vs. Weidman…[I’m] No. 2, he’s No. 3 [in the rankings]. It’s a pretty clear-cut fight. You go out there and do the job at Madison Square…it’s fun, it’s sexy.

You’ve got to show me the right contract. I don’t need to do anything these days. Business is good. We’re doing business everywhere and I’ve got a lot of things going on. When you show me the right contract, I’ll sign the right contract.”

Although he states that he doesn’t ‘need to do anything’, Rockhold made it clear that he still enjoys fighting and will continue to do so.

He just wants to be treated his worth.

“I love fighting. I’m nowhere near done in fighting. But it’s got to make sense. I’m not going to take off time and lose money to go fight. I love what I do and I know I have a lot more to give in this sport. But…these people need to get their contracts straight. They need to get their priorities straight with what they want and where they want to go. I know what I want. Everything is good. I’m not going to f*cking lose money fighting. I’m doing very well outside the cage.”
