Chris Weidman responds following Colby Covington’s RAF 7 win over Dillon Danis

Colby Covington has received a response after calling out Chris Weidman.
This past Saturday, Covington collided with Dillon Danis in freestyle wrestling. The two were featured on the RAF 7 card where “Chaos” outlasted “El Jefe” with a 14-4 score.
After the match, Covington called out former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman (via MMAFighting).
“I want Chris Weidman,” Covington said. “Let’s find out who the real American is right here on the Real American Freestyle mats. Get off your couch, pack a lunch because it’s going to be a long night Chris Weidman. We’re going to find out who’s the real All American.”
In a since deleted post on X, Weidman accepted the challenge and even made a bold prediction.
“@ColbyCovMMA just called me out for a match in @RAFWrestlingUSA ! Offer accepted ! 10-0.”
Whether or not the two will ever share the mat remains to be seen. Weidman announced his retirement from UFC in early 2025, but he planned to compete for Global Fight League. The promotion ended up cancelling all events before anything got started.
Weidman is seemingly open to the idea freestyling wrestling, but there’s no word on why he deleted his social media post. “The All American” did repost Covington’s callout, so perhaps interest remains.
Covington is now 2-0 under the RAF banner. He made his debut for the promotion in early 2026, sweeping Luke Rockhold. Covington has gotten a second wind with his one-sided performances in RAF, which were much needed given that he hasn’t had a pro MMA win since 2022.
Weidman is set to turn 42 in June. He did compete in a grappling match against fellow-ex UFC fighter Hector Lombard at ACBJJ back in 2025. Weidman got the victory via disqualification.
