There are a number of exciting possibilities on UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s horizon. One of those options is a showdown with former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Nurmagomedov has called St-Pierre out on several occasions in the past. For the lightweight champ, the appeal of the fight seems to be that St-Pierre would be a very challenging matchup. In fact, Khabib Nurmagomedov considers Georges St-Pierre the greatest competitor in UFC history.
“Georges is greatest competitor in the UFC of all time,” Nurmagomedov said during a Q&A prior to last weekend’s UFC on FOX 30 card in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (transcript via MMA Mania). “Even if we fight, I think it’s going to be a very tough matchup for me, and for him too. I never lose round in the UFC. I think I can give him very tough match.”
If Khabib Nurmagomedov does get his desired fight with Georges St-Pierre, however, he plans to do what he does to all his other opponents: smash.
“I know you guys love him, but when cage door close I have to smash my opponents,” Nurmagomedov told the Canadian fans present at the Q&A.
“In my mind I think nobody can beat me.”
While Khabib Nurmagomedov is clearly very interested in a potential super fight with Georges St-Pierre, we know that his first title defense is likely to pit him against MMA superstar Conor McGregor — possibly as soon as UFC 229 on October 6.

“Conor’s next,” Nurmagomedov told BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor amid last weekend’s UFC on FOX 30 festivities. “[Dustin] Poirier can fight [Tony] Ferguson,” he added, suggesting a fight between two of the lightweight division’s top contenders.
