Since joining the UFC in mid-2014, strawweight striker Joanna Jedrzejczyk has established herself as one of the best fighters on earth, and as one the sport’s brightest shining stars. In her first two fights with the organization, she took decisions from Juliana Lima in Claudia Gadelha. In her third fight in the Octagon, she claimed the strawweight title with a second-round destruction of former champ Carla Esparza. From there, she would go on to defend the title three times, first TKOing Jessica Penne, then decisioning Valerie Letourneau, and finally defeating Claudia Gadelha in a hard-fought rematch in her most recent fight.

With a 12-0 professional record that has seen Jedrzejczyk go 6-0 inside the Octagon, including three defenses of the women’s strawweight championship, Jedrzejczyk’s dominance in the sport can’t be ignored. While Jedrzejczyk reigns as the women’s strawweight champion, she has expressed a desire to move up to flyweight, and become not only the first ever women’s flyweight champion, but also the first female fighter to hold two championship belts. At the present time however, the UFC currently does not have a women’s flyweight division, leaving Jedrzejczyk to continue her reign over the women’s strawweight division.

While Jedrzejczyk is certainly pleased with the move, she admits that there was an adjustment period where the transition was a bit difficult. Jedrzejczyk is fresh off a unanimous decision win at the TUF 23 Finale back in July, where she picked up an impressive decision win over longstanding rival Claudia Gadelha in a highly anticipated rematch.

UFC president Dana White posted a video of the woman’s 115-pound champion training Muay Thai and some nasty standing elbows ahead of her title fight with Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 on November 12.

Gadelha came out of the gate strong, putting the pressure on Jedrzejczyk throughout the first two rounds, however she gassed out quickly, and the champ was able to decisively win the last 3 rounds, ultimately retaining her title via unanimous decision.
