Earlier this month, Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos was on the wrong end of one of the most brutal knockouts in MMA history at Bellator 158. During the fight, Michael ‘Venom’ Page landed a flying knee that finished Santos, fracturing his skull in the process.

Santos was put in the hospital, where he discovered that he would have to surgically have his skull repaired to fix the damage done by Page.

This week, Santos underwent a 7 hour surgery where they put a plate in his head. He spoke to MMAFighting following the surgery:

“I had surgery yesterday, and thank God everything went fine. It lasted seven hours, and the hospital will give Bellator a full report later today. God guided the doctors in this surgery so everything went well.”

“They didn’t tell me anything about timetable for recovery yet,” he said. “I’ll be released from hospital today, and then they will tell me how long it will take. But it will be fast. I’ll be back soon.”
