When McGregor battled Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring in August of 2017, elevating his stardom to new and unprecedented heights, his bargaining power increased tenfold. Suddenly, his receiving a piece of the UFC pie did not seem like such a farfetched possibility. “They’ve got to entice me now because I came from a billion dollar fight,” McGregor said last year (via MMANytt). “They’ve got to entice me. I want equity. I want ownership. I want to be a true partner, similar in the way I was in the Floyd fight. I was a promoter and I was a fighter, and that must continue for me to continue.”

Last weekend, in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 30 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo rebounded from back-to-back losses with a first-round TKO win over the dangerous Jeremy Stephens. It was incredibly emotional win for Jose Aldo, and a feel-good moment for his legions of fans. Apparently, it was also a feel good moment for Conor McGregor, one of Aldo’s fiercest rivals, and the man who ended his legendary title reign.

The Irish MMA star walked out of court with no criminal charges. The only punishments he received were five days of community service, restitution fees for the bus he damaged, and a mandatory anger management evaluation. Shortly after this undeniably favorable outcome, McGregor issued a brief statement.
