It appears that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is attempting to goad Conor McGregor into accepting a fight. In the lead up to his highly anticipated octagon return against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, Conor McGregor stated that he would be interested in a future fight with former middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva.

Earlier this week, recent UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till issued a few quick calls for a fight with former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor. It is his hope, he explained, that the fight will happen at Anfield, a massive football stadium in his native Liverpool. In a blog post penned for his sponsor PaddyPower, Darren Till elaborated on this callout of McGregor, listing a multitude of reasons why he and the Irish MMA superstar should fight at Anfield in then near future.

Shortly after Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor in the UFC 229 main event, he leapt over the side of the Octagon and attacked McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. McGregor then attempted to chase Nurmagomedov, but was intercepted by a pair of the Russian champion’s training partners, including one who punched him in the back of the head from behind. In the wake of this event, McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has stated that he doesn’t fault Khabib Nurmagomedov for losing his tempter and attacking Danis. That being said, Kavanagh recently divulged that he considers the actions of the fighters who attacked McGregor in the Octagon to be absolutely reprehensible.

Over the last few weeks, there’s been some discussion about a potential super fight between former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor. While this fight would be an absolute blockbuster from a fiscal vantage point, it’s doubtful that it would be particularly competitive. There is no denying Conor McGregor’s ability, but against the middleweight and occasional light heavyweight Silva, the former lightweight and featherweight champion would be grossly undersized.

UFC 229 was hyped as the biggest fight in MMA history, as Conor McGregor would take on lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the card’s blockbuster main event. Well, as it turns out it did break the UFC’s pay-per-view record, but it may have come at a cost for the two headliners. Leading up to the fight, McGregor threw a dolly through a bus window at UFC 223. Then, during the pre-fight press conferences, McGregor verbally attacked Nurmagomedov’s family, religion and manager. All this added fuel to the fire and Khabib Nurmagomedov reacted in kind following his fourth-round submission win over Conor McGregor.

On Monday night, former UFC lightweight and featherweight titleholder Conor McGregor released an astute analysis of his UFC 229 submission loss to undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Fetching content “Thoughts on my last fight. Round 1. I believe from a sport standpoint, round 1 was his. Top position against the fence. Zero position advancement or damage inflicted. But top position. From a fight standpoint the first round is mine. Actual shots landed and a willingness to engage. Straight left early. Knee to the head on the low shot. Elbows in any and all tie up scenarios. Opponent just holding the legs against the fence for almost the entire round. Round 2 he is running away around the cage before being blessed with a right hand that changed the course of the round, and the fight. It was a nice shot. After the shot I bounced back up to engage instantly, but again he dipped under to disengage. That is the sport and it was a smart move that led to a dominant round, so no issue. Well played. If I stay switched on and give his stand up even a little more respect, that right hand never gets close and we are talking completely different now. I gave his upright fighting no respect in preparation. No specific stand up spars whatsoever. Attacking grapplers/wrestlers only. That won’t happen again. I also gave my attacking grappling no respect. To defense minded. Lessons. Listen to nobody but yourself on your skill set.You are the master of your own universe. I am the master of this. I must take my own advice. Round 3. After the worst round of my fighting career, I come back and win this round. Again walking forward, walking him down, and willing to engage. Round 4. My recovery was not where it could have been here. That is my fault. Although winning the early exchanges in 4, he dips under again and I end up in a bad position with over 3 on the clock. I work to regain position and end up upright, with my back to the fence. A stable position. Here however, I made a critical error of abandoning my over hook at this crucial time, exposing the back, and I end up beaten fair and square. What can I say? It was a great fight and it was my pleasure. I will be back with my confidence high. Fully prepared. If it is not the rematch right away, no problem. I will face the next in line. Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor suffered a fourth-round submission loss to current lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomdeov at UFC 229. The fight marked the Irish superstars first octagon appearance since UFC 205 in November of 2016 where he defeated then lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez via second-round TKO.

During a recent stop in Boston, the Irish MMA star attended the latest fight of Irish boxer Katie Taylor. Shortly after Katie Taylor defended her WBA and IBF lightweight titles with a lopsided unanimous decision defeat of Cindy Serrano, she met with McGregor backstage. The pair exchanged a few laughs and well-wishes, and of course, posed for some pictures.

Anderson Silva.” Conor McGregor told ESPN when asked about potential future opponents.“I would be interested in an Anderson Silva bout. I swear to God. Anderson is a legend in the game. What’s the difference between him and Georges? Same damn thing. I’m going to do fights that interest me or have meaning.”

Ever since UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 earlier this month, there’s been talk of a potential rematch between the two stars. That being said, UFC President Dana White claims this is not the current plan. “I haven’t even thought about a [McGregor] rematch,” White told ESPN. “Obviously, I know Conor wants a rematch. We need to do what’s right and what’s fair. We’ll see how it plays out. We literally haven’t thought about it yet.”

Earlier this week, Alex Nurmagomedov, the uncle of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, told Russia’s Sport Express that the champion had already been offered a $15 million payday for an eventual rematch with Conor McGregor. Uncle Nurmagomedov also also divulged that the champion wanted to fight Tony Ferguson next, and then retire from MMA. “From the start, they offered him 15 million if he agrees,” Alex Nurmagomedov said (via MMAjunkie). “But Khabib said no. Let Conor stand in line, let him fight with others. Khabib wants to fight Ferguson, and then finish his career.”
