Former UFC two-weight champion Conor McGregor is down to face Manny Pacquiao in boxing.

‘The Notorious’ is currently awaiting his return to the octagon. Conor McGregor famously broke his leg in his July 2021 trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, and he’s been on the sidelines since then. As of now, the Irishman is hoping to return to the UFC cage later this year against Michael Chandler.

However, he also has a potential boxing option in the form of Manny Pacquiao. ‘PacMan’ himself retired after a decision loss to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021. However, Pacquiao officially came out of retirement earlier this year and called to box several opponents. Those names are Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, and former UFC champion Conor McGregor.

The Irishman himself is no stranger to the boxing ring. In 2017, Conor McGregor crossed over to face Floyd Mayweather, in one of the biggest fights ever. While the former UFC champion came up short against ‘Money’, it was clear that his time in the sport wasn’t over. In the years since that bout, McGregor has spoken about multiple fights, including against the likes of Canelo Alvarez.

Seven years on from Conor McGregor’s last trip to the boxing ring, he’s ready to return. On Instagram Stories, the UFC fighter held a Q&A session for fans to ask him questions. A fan asked about McGregor potentially boxing Manny Pacquiao. There, he responded that the bout could go down in December.

Conor McGregor reveals potential December date for Manny Pacquiao boxing match

“It’s still there.” Conor McGregor responded to a fan on Instagram Stories, asking about a potential boxing match with Manny Pacquiao. “Could be [in] December. The Saudi’s are game changers in the market 100%.”

Conor McGregor’s mention of Saudi Arabia is something to keep an eye on. When Manny Pacquiao ended his retirement last month, his representative stated that a potential fight with the UFC star could happen in the Middle East. It seems that McGregor is in agreement with that idea.

Earlier this year, the main architect of Saudi Arabia’s move into boxing, Turki Alalshikh, even publicly called to host a fight involving Conor McGregor. While the UFC remains a hurdle, it seems that the two sides do want to work together in the near future.
