Chael Sonnen a ‘Warm-Up Fight’ if Chuck Liddell Returns

By Justin Golightly - September 27, 2017

The man, the myth, the legend, any cliche about superstars of any sport could be said about Chuck Liddell. He’s one of the fighters who carried UFC’s torch into new eras and put more butts into seats that you could count. He recently appeared on The MMA Hour talking about his long-hinted at return from retirement, but still no concrete plans. That won’t stop one guy from mentioning his name. The guy being ‘American Badass’ Chael Sonnen. Chuck Liddell recently got stopped by TMZ and asked about if that’s a guy he’d come back and fight.

“You know, people take things out of context, but I’m never going to say 100% no [on a comeback]. It was actually more recent than last month, but that was Chael [Sonnen] talking about me. Chael’s an easy fight. If I was gonna’ come back, it’s a good one. It’s a good warm-up fight for me. He’s got a big mouth but not much behind it. I think that’s why he developed that WWE style.” — Liddell speaking to TMZ Sports.

Last month, Sonnen was talking like a fight with the legend Chuck Liddell is happening. Of course, you have to take everything Sonnen says with a grain of salt. After Liddell’s comment to TMZ though, Sonnen doubled-down on his hope to welcome Liddell back to MMA on Twitter. The Iceman has been teasing a possible return for quite some time, obviously if he decides he wants to come back after all this time, there’s money to be made already in Bellator.

“I think the most likely opponent is going to end up being Chuck Liddell. We’ll see what happens there, but that’s what I think is going to happen. I think there are actual legs to this Chuck thing. I really do.” — Chael Sonnen told FloCombat back in April.
