How Charlie Guest went from foster care to ONE Championship debut

He flew to Thailand alone at 16 on his first-ever flight, worked construction and drove heavy goods vehicles to fund the dream, and spent fourteen years grinding toward a phone call he always believed was coming.

Charlie Guest makes his ONE Championship debut against Sam Fitzgerald in a featherweight Muay Thai bout at ONE Fight Night 44 on Prime Video, broadcasting live in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, June 26. The ISKA Muay Thai World Champion arrives with 14 career knockouts and a story that deserves the biggest stage in the sport.

Guest was raised by his grandparents from the age of five after his parents’ drug habits made home unstable. His father later passed away as a result of his addiction. His grandfather was a 22-year British Army veteran; his grandmother kept the household running day to day. They gave him everything he needed to choose a different direction.

Discovering Muay Thai as a teenager in Bournemouth was accidental. He walked into an MMA gym and ended up in a Muay Thai class, and that was the end of any other plan.

“I just ended up doing the Thai boxing class, and I just absolutely fell in love with everything about it,” he said.

“The noises, the pads, the people. I just fell in love with it. So I didn’t even bother going back to MMA. I just went to Muay Thai classes every single night.”

Charlie Guest makes his statement

Charlie Guest arrives at his ONE Championship debut with a full understanding of what he has come to do. Winning the ISKA World Title last year confirmed he had reached the top of his game. The ONE call came shortly after, and the reaction at home said everything.

He trains at Impact MMA and Tiger Muay Thai, brings 14 knockouts into his record, and has a specific weapon already lined up for Fitzgerald. The elbows that have ended careers on the regional circuit are coming to Lumpinee Stadium on Friday.

“I just wanna go out there and show what I can do and make a statement. I’m here to fight anyone and everyone. The game plan remains the same,” he said.

“I personally think the knockout will arrive with an elbow. Most of my knockouts come from elbows, so I’ll be looking to unleash them come fight night.”
